Windshield differences.

Post by Winddancer »

I am in the market for a new windshield, and I am quite surprised by the huge price difference between Cee Baileys and ClearView..
My needs were,
lightly tinted grey, 2+ High 4+wide both with 5 position vent.
CB is 227.00 shipped and CV is 331.49 shipped..
I have searched this forum for a reason for the difference,
but I have not had much luck, I did see some say CB is cut different,
but I can not find anything on that, or anypictures on how it is cut..
gearheadfla posted a nice pic of his Clearview, and I would love it if someone with the taller/wider Cee Baileys could do the same..
Also, I saw a comment on lexan and plexi..
is one lexan and the other plexi??
any info will be helpfull, because sometimes the cheapest isn't always the better deal, but on the same token, the most expensive doesn't make it the best, just the most expensive..
Thank you...
Ride safe......

I have a cee bailey that is 4" taller and 2" wider with vent. You can see a picture of it on abbikeboard.com
it is on the forum page and about 13 threads down "Winter upgrades done". I really like the taller
sheild, I am 5' 10" and it lets me look thru it with no problem. It takes about two weeks to get it
since they make it to order. I also got the headlight shield you can see it on the bike. It was only
$10 more with the order. It will save the headlight from rock damage. I also purchased the
rain edging from another online company, was expensive but it really does direct the wind away.
Have not been in the rain yet to see how that works. Safe Riding.

I'm 5'8" & have a 4+2 cee bailey. the difference is CB is more square, the edges are straight. the CV is shaped more like the OEM windshield. you can get a vent in both. i also look thru not over the shield. i bought the CB windshield because the wife was being buffeted by the wind & not enjoying the ride. make the wife happy & i'm happy

The OEM shield is lexan (polycarbonate) the CB and CV are both plexiglass. There was another company that made lexan shields for the Voyager XII but I can't remember. A Google search would tell you tho.

I have a Clearview shield. I talked with a guy last year at Clearview and he says their shields are made from an aircraft grade acrylic. Maybe that is the difference in cost.

I had a CV on my 1200 for over 100k, same sheild it was a 2 x 2, no vent I like hot. Never had any problems, so I saw that they have an ad in the Voyagers Voice again. They now sell Sheilds for the 1700, I ordered and when I was in the Denver metro area I stopped by their manufacturing plant and got a tour. If your an AVA member they give 10% discount, almost pays for shipping.

All ClearView Sheilds are handmade one at a time. Whenever they get an order they make that Sheild, its cut by hand, formed by hand, polished by hand. Everything is made right there in there plant execpt the plastic. So when you buy a ClearView Sheild you know your buying a handmade product, thats made in the USA.

Cee Bailey shields are also made in the US and are hand polished (no mention of being hand cut & formed but I believe they are made to order). For the same material & thickness as ClearView, I can't see paying more. I had a Cee Bailey on my ST1100 and had absolutely no issues with it.

I would rather have a Lexan shield but I've searched and can't find one. I've found a few companies making Lexan shields but none are for the Voyager XII.
