Looking to get new highway pegs or mini floorboards. Was wondering what preferred choice was?

Re: Highway pegs
Kuryakyn makes highway foot pegs that will mount on the the Voyager's crash bars. Not cheap but you won't have to worry about them slipping off.

Re: Highway pegs
If you put hyway pegs on the front crash bars. You will be much better off to get good ones and to make sure they do the right job. imho, it is best to put a cross bar between the two front crash bars. Even if you do not use foot pegs this is a must as if the XII ever tips over the crash bars will bend in and do damage to other parts especially the pastic parts. Very simple to do with a 1" Alum or Stainless solid round bar, bout 22" long simply turn each end down to 7/8" and insert into ends of crash bars after removing plastic on ends of crash bars and also remove burr with a file on inside edge of crash bar. measure the distance between the ends of your bars and those marks are where you turn down to 7/8". Bars can be bent in a hair before you install bar so you get a tight fit. And also bent a little so when you mount the foot rest that the pegs mount on the bar so they are straight and perpendicular to the MC when in use.. This bar will save you much $$$$ on a tip over and be solid as a rock..

Re: Highway pegs
That's an excellent point Doug. I'm going to have to do that myself. Thanks for the tip.

For those of us who do not have the luxury of a mill in our garage/workshop,a piece of 5/8 water pipe(7/8 OD) and a 1 " chrome towel bar cut to length ,should give strength and a nice finish.

Re: Highway pegs
This last summer I upgraded my foot pegs to the Kuryakyn mini boards (4392) along with the longhorn offset mounts and 1" quick clamps (7985). Bought everything on Amazon and saved a lot. The thing I like least about a traditional peg is the lack of heal support and I find myself adjusting my foot on the peg a lot. With the mini board there is just enough surface area to support my feet so I can cruise long distances without the annoyance of moving my feet around to get comfortable. You can add a stirrup to the standard Kuryakyn iso peg but that just adds more to the cost. The only thing I found a bit hard in mounting the Kurakyn's was the quick clamp is pretty wide and there is only one area on the crash bars that you can really install the mount and that is near the bend. I wasn't sure at first if the quick clamp would work but after some effort I was able to get the clamp tightened up.
Last year I added a light bar that is made by Harrison Specialties. It's a machined cross bar that plugs into the crash bar tubes and has mounts on each side for lights. Harrison also makes and sells nice LED lighting to mount on their cross bar. They are not producing any more of these bars but had a few seconds left that they are parting with at blowout pricing. This was a great upgrade, not only did it take out the flex and reinforce the crash bars it also allowed me to add a set of LED's which provides that triangular light set up which is proven to to be the best way to get the attention of motorist.

Re: Highway pegs
I have been trying to find a chromed 1" tube with the idea of reinforcing it with a heavier pipe inside. NO ONE seems to supply a 1" chrome tube! Lots of 3/4 and 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 but no 1". Anyone have a source? I have the lowers off for lighting and horns and would like to reinforce the spill bars before I put it all back together.
Gettin' a little frustrated!

Re: Highway pegs
No idea on the 1" chrome tube/pipe, sorry.
With regards to floorboards for highway use, these are fantastic, and very affordable:
Emgo Floorboards with 1" Clamps
I've used them on two different bikes, never had an issue. They're large enough to allow you to move your feet around a bit, they can be adjusted to whatever angle suits you. Did I mention they're affordable? Currently, on Amazon.com, they sell for $35.46/pair + S/H. They're made of aluminum, and they are fairly heavy construction. At this price, I won't care if I break them in a tip-over. Cheers!

Re: Highway pegs
I was planning on going cheap, no chrome, as the majority of the bar will be behind the tire, and difficult to see. Since you posted about the 1" chrome bicycle stem, all of that will now change... Thanks!!! Cheers!

Re: Highway pegs
Since this thread contains a lot of 'improvising' discussion, I'll throw out my source for much of my improvised stuff. I get much of what I need from a place called McMaster-Carr (Mcmaster.com). I have no affiliation with them just find that if I need anything to fabricate parts for any of my projects I start there. Specialty bolts, pipe, tubing, tools, gauges, valves, filters, glues, tapes etc. Over 500,000 items, they'll probably have something to help you out, and their shipping is reasonable and fast. Hope I'm not too far off topic , just trying to help out!
