Value of helmets with intercom setup.
Someone please tell me roughly the value of these two helmets I got with my bike. They are HJC open face helmets with J+M intercom setup including the mic, ear speakers and 5 pin cord and plug. I wish to sell them cheap so someone here can benefit, as this forum has helped me a lot. They are well used helmets, with dings and bruises. Look like they may have been carried together and rubbed each other. I will not be riding two up so they are of no value to me but I'm sure someone here could use them, or at least the parts. I have not plugged them into my bike, if someone would instruct me I'll test them out! I'm sure I can find where they plug in, I just don't know about control switches and such. When I settle on a price I'll put them in the classifieds. Thanks in advance for any insight and advice.

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
Cal,
If you got the helmets with the bike, we can assume there is a Y-cord is attached to the radio, and set-up for the rider and passenger. The Voyager is equipped with a stereo/cassette player that is already configured to provide helmet to helmet intercom and stereo sound. If equipped with a CB, that is also configured to operate with the in-helmet speakers and microphones. On the radio front panel there is a button labled "HS' which stands for "Headset". When that botton is enabled, all sound is routed through the "Y-chord" to the two helmets and it shuts off the speakers. If your bike is equipped with a CB and the Y-cord is installed, I'd think twice before getting rid of the headset equipped helmets. Just my 2-cents.

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
Thank you Bill, that's some very good advice. The bike doesn't have a CB, but I do remember the "HS" button. I assume the "Y" cord would be routed within the frame or under the seat to get to the passenger control box where the rear helmet would plug in? I suppose I could drag the Mrs. out to the garage and we could see if it works!Bill O wrote:Cal,

The helmets themselves are nothing to rave about, but I guess the headsets could be transferred to other helmets.

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
the headsets can in deed be transferred from helmet to helmet. I've done it a few times with J&M's. My last set of helmets are HJC IS33's and it's easy to move them from one helmet to another.
IMO the headsets are worth more than used helmets! You have no real idea of how well they were handled or mis-handled so all they are good for would be spares just in case someone lost one and needed one just to stay legal till they got to a shop to purchase another/replacement.

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
I agree with you on the helmets Scott. They are not pristine by any stretch of the imagination . When I mentioned to my wife about testing the headsets she said "would I have to put it on?" then made this face So, I think your idea of just parting with the headsets is a good idea, and just keeping the helmets around as emergency spares.Scott-(Altoona, PA) wrote:the headsets can in deed be transferred from helmet to helmet. Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
For what its worth the helmet liners should come out for cleaning, then they can be set aside in case anyone needs one in an emergency.
Yes I Am a Pack-Rat, and I need Help! Wow that feels good getting that off my chest. That's the first step in recovery isn't it? Admitting you have an addiction that is.
My wife will tell you I need help too!!!!!!!!!

Ha! you've got nothing on me! I am lucky enough to have 1600 ft of garage space and there isn't enough room to walk around my bike! And its not full of vehicles, its just STUFF
That's another good idea about the helmets. I think the liners can come out and maybe be washed.

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
Cal,
It's really interesting watching someone get to know their new (to them) bike. It also help those of us who've had their Voyager for some time to get a fresh breath of the excitement you are feeling which we all went through at one time or another. Once you work your way around the in's and out's it will become like an opiate pushing you towards riding it every chance you get. If you are or will get into touring, the Voyager will not let you down.
Just give us a heads up when you're ready to learn how to set the Clock. (A little levity, intended!)

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
Thanks Bill. Touring will probably wait until I retire, hopefully the Mrs. by then will have her back situation such that she can ride with me. I do plan to ride whenever I can though. Clock? I've already set the clock! Somewhat confusing but I got R done!Bill O wrote:Cal,

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
Here's a couple pics of the headsets. I took them out of the helmets. I cannot find anywhere to plug them into the bike... Either I just don't see it, its well hidden or I don't have one... In any event, I don't need these, someone tell me what I should ask for them. I'm thinking $50-$75 for the pair? If I'm way off please let me know.

Re: Value of helmets with intercom setup.
I have two people interested already, I would guess they are sold. To answer your question though, they came out of open face helmets, it may be difficult to fit the boom mic inside a full face.Lance McCaw wrote:I am needing a set of these for our full face bell helmets will they work.
