Windshield cleaner?

I need to clean my new Cee Bailey windshield. They, of course, recommend their products or Tide laundry detergent mixed with water. Not having "Tide" specifically, but another detergent instead, I'm wondering if that would be ok? It contains no softeners or bleach so I'm thinking it would be alright. The other option is what I use to clean the polycarbonate lenses on my glasses. For that I use a mixture of 49% distilled water, 49% rubbing alcohol and 1% Dawn dish washing liquid. (percentages determined via atmospheric extraction ) It's safe for my polycarbonate lenses, but I don't think my windshield is polycarbonate, is it? Of course all of this is done with a wet, microfiber cloth to avoid any damage. In looking again at the Cee Bailey site, they say not to use any kitchen cleaning products, I wonder if this includes simple soap or if they mean any abrasive or harsh chemical cleaner? Your input is welcomed.

I only use Novus 1 on all my plastic stuff. Windshields, helmet shields ect.

The Cee Bailey site says any non-abrasive soap.

I have some Plast-X, by Meguires. Says it is "Clear plastic polish and cleaner". I may try that on an unobtrusive spot and see how it works.

How long have you used it? I'd be afraid some of the solvents or propellants in it may fog the plastic. But that hasn't happened with you?

Plexus Plastic Cleaner and Protectant

Works on any type of windshield. Not cheap but goes a long way.

I use Honda Spray Wax, sold at the dealer, works great for cleaning bugs. Back in the days of my Stockcar racing we used Pledge on all the windows, it also worked good.

I've used both Plexus and Pledge. I think the Plexus is better, but the Pledge (much cheaper) works very well. Pledge is the best (I've found) for cleaning off sticky bug guts. I've also used Dawn dish-washing detergent with no ill effects.

Pledge has been used for many years, cleaning acrylic podiums at a business I was a staff member of. I have used it on my Windjammer, and Cee Baileys shields for 5+ years, no ill effects. Read the label to see what things it will remove/cut through -- waxes being one of the primary things it will remove. Be careful using it on waxed gas tanks, and other hard parts -- it will clean them, even taking protective wax coatings...

I've used it on various parts, even painted surfaces. No ill effects other than it removes just about everything but the paint! Have used it to clean the seats/backrests, as well. Smells good, too, if you use the Lemon version, which is what is specifically recommended to use, no idea if the other varieties have different qualities, or if this is just a wive's tale.

The Plexus is made specifically for plastics, and it has anti-fog qualities. I've used both, on my helmet visors as well. The Plexus is better on the helmet visor due to the fact that it won't fog up, on cold mornings, but the Pledge works great otherwise. We pack an aerosol can of Pledge, and some micro-fiber towels in the trunk, to use when we stop for the evening, on tours. It takes a little elbow grease to remove the day's bugs, but they come off, and the bike looks/smells great. Cheers!

Just spit on it and wipe it with your jacket sleeve!

When mine gets too messy I cover with an old T-shirt and wet it or leave it on over night. The dew softens the bugs and when its removed in the morning they wipe right off, shirt is cotton so no scratches!
Wife does quite appreciate it but sometimes she don't know if its inside out or tucked in the laundry with rags.

What the wife don't know can't hurt ya. I do somewhat of that same trick, I keep a garden spray bottle in the shop and as I am doing other things I keep giving it a spraying down to wet and soften the little critters. But having an air compressor handy in the shop and a solvent/sprayer, I keep a gallon jug of mild-mix car cleaner and spray it clean, never touching the wind shield at all. Can't get any scratches on it if you don't touch it. Comes out as clean as riding all day in the rain...

I'll see you one better. Put some hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and spray windshields and fairings, car front ends after you get smashed bugs on them. The peroxide dissolves the bodies and won't harm the finish. No scrubbing.

+1 I'll give that a shot too, can't hurt. Might save the back side from a kicking or two!!!!

I use Formula 1 bike cleaner/polish on the whole bike, windshield included. Works great. I read where Pledge was no longer petroleum-based and wouldn't work as well so I went back to the Formula 1 which used to be marketed as "Kit" instead of Formula 1.

I also use the plexis and hydrogen peroxide works great the best solution I have ever found and yes Pledge work good also.
