Howling noise on highway

Hi I'm new to this forum,so I hope I'm posting in right section. I have a 1994 voyager I got from my brother about a year ago . My problem is I have a howling noise riding down the road above 30 or 40 mph and gets louder on highway ,goin straight down road its ok ,but as soon as I start leanin alittle in turn it starts 2 howl, and I can feel roughness in my foot pegs. I can make it happen by swayin side to side. I am runnin metzler m-88 tire press F-38 R-40 rear tire has 5000mi front not sure mileage but older than back tire ,I suspected tires first the front tire still has pretty good tread ,but it is cupping a little on sides.
Has anybody had this problem and was it related to tires, or could it be a different problem such as wheel bearing ,shaft ,etc Thanks for any help u can give me

I bought a 92" a few years back and it had some Avon's on it that howled some when leaning. I replaced the tires and no more howling. Now the Voyager does make a noise that sounds like the Jetson's car when leaning that is associated with the bevel gears and final drive alignment that is not so noticeable on some Voyager's but very noticeable on others. I think it is a service thing where the final drive needs to be properly aligned. Some owners swap final drives to quiet the sound. Mine makes this noise but doesn't bother me at all.

So if it is a Jetson car kind of sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdWswvLPdE0 then I wouldn't worry about it to much. You probably could up the pressure in the rear depending on the pressure limit that is stamped and try that.

Its your rear tire, it is feathered off on tread just off center. Put some air in it and it will do a little less noise. It is a natural occurring thing on a motorcycle tire. Front wants to cup, rear wants to feather.
The way I cure it is go to the mountains and ride for a weekend and round the rear back up!

Hey thanks guys for your advice. How can I tell wether its the tires or the bevel gear problem? does the bevel gear problem make the noise all the time or just when your cornering? If its the tires I wont be as worried as if its a rear gear problem. Has any one had this problem with the metzelers bein noisy? and what do u run 4 air pressure ? maybe I will try to put up air pressure in the rear and try to round out the tire ,what air pressure would u recommend? JDH I thought the link to the jetson sound was goin to be a bike goin down the road makin the noise but it was actually the jetson car .LOL Thanks for your help.

The rear end gear noise usually starts around 50mph and quiets down some around 70. Leaning into curves won't make a difference.

Another thing I have seen is when the rear tire was changed the gorrillas at the bike shop thought that 200+# torque on the rear axle was correct. Loosen the axle nut some if it is the rear chunk making the noise, it should quiet down some.
