When I went to replace the old plugs on my Voyager, I succeeded in pulling the wires out of the caps on the #2 and 3 cylinders. The ends of the wires were FUBAR'd so I looked for a solution. Well, I found them: http://www.parkeryamaha.com/ngksparkplugwiresplice.aspx
I ordered two of those, and some 7mm wire found on the same page. I cut the end off the existing wire and spliced in a 10 inch pigtail. Viola!! Now I can pull the caps off and have plenty of lead..

Re: Spark plug wires pulled out of cap.
Good tip - 7mm wire is sometimes kind of hard to find. When I replaced my plug wires, I went with Packard 440 copper core, as per C. Leo. It was $1.35/ft in 2010. Looks to be $2/ft now. It takes about 5 ft - if you don't make a cutting mistake...
