CARB SYNCH ?
Hi I have a 1994 voyager and I have never sych the carbs yet .do u hook the vac lines on the carb sych to where the 3 vac plugs and 1 vac hose on the front of the carbs? Does anybody have a tread on how to exacty do the carb synch .Thanks

P.S. I noticed you said "3 vac plugs and 1 vac hose" in your post. If you have a California model there should be 4 vac hoses connected. For Non-Calif models, there should be 2 vac plugs on the two inside carbs and 2 hoses connected to the outside two carbs. The two hoses are connected to a tee, together and then route towards the front of the head. I guess having the two hoses connected together maintains a more stable vacuum. (?)

You are right I have 2 hoses and 2 caps on front carb ,my mistake didn't look close enough. I looked at the instructions that was in your link ,My friend has the new type synch tool not actually vac gauges ,im guessing instructions are the same? and the 2 vac lines u take off do u have to plug them when u do the synch?

http://www.carbtune.com easiest & best to use for carb sync
Sync first two carbs, then second two carbs, then the middle screw syncs all four.
Easy to do, just takes some time to get it right

So being im working on 01 with carb issues, can someone tell me what and where the 2 clear hoses i have coming from between the 2 outside and inside carbs are for and where they go? Cant find them in the manual except in the exploded view but they dont show where the end up

the 2 clear hoses are open to the atmosphere. They do not connect to anything and should not be blocked. They just go over the top of the carb linkage and lower air box, and drop down in front of the fuel tank. Mine were stiff and so I replaced them with 1/4 clear poly pipe.

Triton is correct on these two hoses, except, if you still have the California plumbing. Then they connect and are routed to the Carbon Canister and all that junks for a sealed vapor recycling system.triton28 wrote:Bigmac;

For all who are not sure. If you look under the carbs from the right side of the bike, and you see a metal vacuum valve screwed into the face of the lower air box, you have a California Model Voyager.

It is fairly easy to convert a "Peoples Replublic of California", model Voyager to what the 49 other states allow. After all the years of user maintenance, many Calif models have open vacuum lines that should be capped, and old carbon canisters with the liquid/vapor separators no longer functioning, and vapor recovery lines to the gas tank just flapping in the breeze. As much as I don't like the smog set-up on the Voyager, it should be maintained functional or completely converted to the Non-California model. My 2C.

Here in Canada we did not have ANY of the emission control wizardry piping. Even the reed valve fittings on the top of the cylinder head cover are blanked off stock from the factory.

Tryin to get setup to do carb synch ,what tool do u use to get to the middle synch adj screw and how do u get at it with the air filter housing in place ?

Remove the air box. I use a screwdriver. Be sure to put as little pressure as possible on the screws when turning them. You barely have to turn them. To much pressure on the screws will give you a false reading

Get a 110 degree rotary driver and you can easily do the adjustments without removing the airbox. I can complete a sync in about 15 min using one.

I hooked up the carbtune syncher on my bike just to see where it is and they were all within 2-cmhg but they were bouncing is this normal for a voyager? if I hold the idle up alittle the meter doesn't bounce. my idle is about 800 My idle adjuster knob is super erratic if I just turn a little it goes up to 1500 2000 rpm,is there a trick to makin small adjustments of the idle? I checked for air leaks at intakes with wd-40 and couldn't find any. The reason im doin the synch is because the idle is alittle rough, other wise the bike runs great. Voyager 55 u say take the air box off to do the adjustment do u do the reading with the box off as well? And JHD were do u get a 110-degree rotary driver ,what does it look like? Thanks for the help

I take the air filter box out to get at the middle screw. I sync the carbs with it off to.

The company in England that sells the carbtune sells them. Has anybody used a carbtune two to synch their carbs on their Voyager X11 , did u get a bouncy reading or was it steady? When I checked mine it was bouncy, Also what are the causes of rough idle? bike runs perfect other wise. Thanks for help.

Are your dampers on the carb tune correct? Mine is very steady. Also blip the throttle every so often when sync'ing carbs
Check your plugs? Also run some sea foam in your gas. 1 ounce per gallon.
