New member with an 87
Hello my name is Doc and I just traded for an 87 1200
Came from a man named Robert from Cuba city wi.
Maybe he is a member here?
I have two quick questions
Does the pass seat adjust forward and back ?
How do I fill or adjust the air in the rear shocks?

Yes the rear seat does adjust, the lever is along the left side of the seat near the grab bar. Just lift and slide front to back. It may be a bit dirty and tough to slide but they do adjust.
The air adjust for shocks (boh front and back/rear) is on the right side of the fairing near your right knee when seated. Small plastic cover lifts up from bottom to reveal the two caps on the air valves. If memory serves me right the left valve is front and right is rear, they are marked so check first as I don't trust my memory sometimes.

Re: New member with an 87
Thanks for the info and the welcome Scott
Not sure this is the bike for me as I am 6'4" and 250 lbs.
seems a bit cramped but I am in it cheap.
Maybe someone will remember this bike ?
I think the waterpump is leaking oil

Re: New member with an 87
Doc, I can't speak on the water pump other than do a search and read up on it. I do know there have been others who thought they had similar issues and found that the problem wasn't as severe and corrective actions were less involved. Again I haven't experienced problems in that area so I won't give you "guessing" advice. I'm sure others who've had similar problems will respond.
As for cramped, think about adding pegs or foot boards on the engine bars. That will give you another position to stretch your legs out after you get into a running gear.
If you ride alone, there are some replacement seats which may allow you move back a bit farther (assuming its the type that lessons the hump between front & rear positions).

howdy,im a new owner too.bought a 92 about a month ago.there are not to many bikes bigger out there. did you know the handle bars are adjustable?? pop off the round covers on the bars to adjust. im a big guy too and once I got used to it im very comfy.she rides smooth and runs flawless for an old ride. also use a bicycle pump to pump up the shocks[in owners manual] not a compressor. this site is way more than helpful and full of smart, thrifty people. happy motoring....ace.

Re: New member with an 87
Doc, if this is your bike, it's not an '87 unless it's been repainted or all of the plastic replaced! The Red/Black were '96/'97 colors. Or maybe it's a typo and you meant '97?Ntolerance wrote:

Re: New member with an 87
Crap it is a 97. Sooooooo $500 for this bike is a good deal huh?
I did trade for it. My trade was worth more than I had in it.
Has a major oil leak when sitting. Comes just behind the left foot peg.
Drivers seat is worn but useable
Needs a rear tire
Needs routine maintenance

Hello Doc and welcome. I'm Duane. Very likely your scoot is a '97 -indicated by the red paint with black inserts. Maybe you made out better than you thought.

Re: New member with an 87
The air ride was completely empty. I put 30 psi in it (complete guess) and went for a ride. Floats like a cadillac stings like a beemer.
I think the clutch is toast. Hard shift or hard accell in 1st or 2nd produces alot of rpm and little accelleration.

I think I would change fluids before tearing the clutch apart.Grungy fluid will make the clutch seem pretty useless.

Yep. Got to thinking about that today. My 2000 suzuki 1500LC doesn't like car oil. Makes the clutch slip. Guy I traded with said he had just changed the oil.
As to tires. I've had too many discussions about the dark side to count
I'll just put my tire on and enjoy

Re: New member with an 87
I traded a truck for this bike. I had $500 into the truck but it was worth at least double that. So. Yeah I have $500 into it but I would put a $1000 value on it

Re: New member with an 87
There is not enough leg room on this thing for me.
I see there is a kit to slide the trunk back further. I think if i could slide the passengers seat back more it would help. Any thoughts?
