MPG. and high test

Did my first fill up, needle was about on e. took 4.13 gallons added twice the amount of seafoam this time trying to clean the carbs.

Got 33.6 mpg with work commuting and in town driving. Took one 30-40 mile drive on this tank ay Hwy speed. Does this sound about right.

Will high test improve gas mileage.? Any advantage in using it. Is the seafoam affecting my mileage?

I noticed auto shutoff on the gas pump did not work so I spilled a little in the black tray in the faux tank tray. cleaned it out well with paper towels before departing.

33.6 isn't bad for mixed based on my driving habits but I tend to twist the throttle a bit too much when pulling out. Many get better mileage but they're more conservative riders. I've gotten over 50 mpg on highway but that was being easy on the throttle.
The Seafoam shouldn't affect your mileage as its helping to burn the garbage fuel we're forced to buy now with ethanol added. Pure gas will give you the best results but its hard to find and most charge a premium for it. Doubling the seafoam won't hurt a thing either, it will only help to clean out old crud. With that said tripling most likely won't help much more in comparison to the cost but keep going with what you're doing.

Getting better mileage with high test versus regular can fuel posts as well as which oil to use will keep posts moving! Personally I think that mileage is a little low, but as Scott said the throttle makes a difference. For me over 65 MPH drops my mileage. I usually get 45-50 MPG but that is with more highway than in town. Running faster (70-75 MPH) I get around 38, if I remember correctly. If you're running fast that mileage maybe right on.

Bob: you should get at "least" 40mpg for a good running XII in normal conditions, I do not know if I read you changed your air filter? They can get old and look clean but the media breaks down in them over a period of years and can create a rich mixture and mpg would go down to what your saying. As stated many times "Always with a new machine, change all fluids, filters, air, oil, & fuel. coolant, plugs, & put in new fuel, check plug wires in the dark! to see if they have any spark jump. Let us know what you find and we will try to help.

Octane rating is its resistance to pre-detonation. It has nothing to do with better mileage. Higher octane is only necessary if the engine is pinging/pre-detonating. SeaFoam can lower mileage when used in higher doses. Run that tank down, then fill it up again, without adding any SeaFoam, and see how your mileage is then. Cheers!

You might look around in your area for ethanol free gas. Ethanol being alcohol has a lower btu rating and will produce less performance than ethanol enhanced gas. The old Voyager will run on 87 and 92 octane and will perform well on either. Premium I think is just burning your money.

You should get at least 40mpg unless you are really into the throttle. You will probably need to run several tanks thru to clean out your carbs. 2up, I get 43mpg at 65-70. Have gotten as good as 50mpg but was only running 40-45 on back roads. If that doesn't help, consider sending them to Carl Leo. He is the best w/carbs. Worth the money..

On my 86, I average 43-50 mpg with mixed highway and city (a bit heavier on highway). I tend to ride around 70 mph on highway, as that is the de facto speed limit on the roads around me.

You should get better than that. On my 1250 mile trip to Ashville,I averaged 48[odometer correction factored in] with the highway speed of 70 from Canton,Oh to Charleston,WV. both ways. .That was with two people and the luggage full.

My 88 would get 50mpg on a regular basis, regular unleaded ethanol, two up at highway speeds. Granted that is in flat Florida.

Check the carbs to be sure they are synched properly
