Let's talk ARM RESTS
It seems like actual Voyager XII arm rests are just too hard to find (and over priced) and I'm looking at alternative choices. I managed to find a nice Markland backrest for only $162 out the door (which I thought was a great deal, any comment, good or bad?) and now I'm looking for some arm rests. It looks like the GL1500 style would bolt on the side of the trunk with maybe a backing plate.

And I've heard some people on here use the GL1200 style.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-GL1100-GO ... 1d&vxp=mtr
How do they bolt on, underneath the seat? Here are some more options that may or may not work.

Hope I did this right.
As always Thanks for all comments.

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
As for the GL1200 arm rests, pm "Chris near Kansas City" and ask if he has any arm ret brackets available. He makes the perfect adapter bracket that is frame mounted so you don't endanger any plastic/tupperware on your bike.

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
I bought a pair of GL1100 arm rests. They bolted to the passenger grab bar front bolt, below the passenger seat, easy-peasy. We've been using them for five years now, without issue. They're still available on e-Bay, new, aftermarket: link.
The arm rests pivot on the angled plate, which not only clears the grab bar nicely, but it allows them to rotate forward/back; they rotate in/out, and they allow the passenger to gently 'clamp' themselves between, to nap while riding (we both use them that way, when riding all day -- we take turns driving). Would not ride any distance without them again!
They work perfectly, and they move out of the way easily, for mounting/dismounting. They are a good height, and high quality. Cheers!

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
My bike came with a set that mounts to the trunk. Not sure how well they'll work, as we haven't managed to ride 2 up yet. But given a choice, I'd have gone with the ones that mount to the passenger grab handles. I think the trunk will be ok, but who knows?

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
Wayne, mine are 3rd party vendor/after market using the GL arm rest and Chris from KC's brackets.
I have no real experience with the OEM arm rests but due to the mounting locations I would suggest or rather warn NOT to use them for shifting weight. ONLY for resting arms on while traveling, the passenger should use the grab rails to lift their weight and/or shift their body when necessary.
Use for resting of arms should be perfect and not harm the integrity of the trunk.

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
So, what I'm hearing is to just get a set of GL1200 arm rests and use Chris from KC's adapters. Does anyone have a pic of these adapters or a pic on the bike to see where they bolt and fit the seat? How do they lock?

Talk to Chris first, I cant remember if mine are GL1200 or GL1100 a4m rests to be honest. I tried checking my eBay purchases but can't find it to tell you for sure.

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
Mine are for the GL1100, not the 1200. Here is the e-Bay link again: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Goldwing- ... 1d&vxp=mtr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. These are what I have mounted on my bike.
With them mounted on the passenger grab bar bolt, we can push down on them to shift our weight, without issue. They are bolted to the bike's frame, not the plastic trunk.

They look good. Do they swivel out of the way do get on and off the bike ?SgtSlag wrote:Mine are for the GL1100, not the 1200. Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
Those look good. A little high but that would probably be good for leaning and resting a little. I also wondered if they fold down at all. Not to get off subject, but what caught my eye were those forward pegs for the passenger. A different place to put your feet would really help and I bet they love that. I couldn't zoom in enough but it looks like you have some sort of bracket. Is this a factory bracket or something else. I don't think I've seen this before, tell us more.

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
The forward pegs appear to be Marvellas, I put them on my XII and my wife loves them!
They give your passenger a different position so they can reposition feet/legs to avoid fatigue.
Here's a link to the site (passenger foot peg page) ---- Marcella's.com
If I can shovel a path to my bike shed, I'll take a few pics of both the arm rests I have and rear pegs!

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
Yes, the GL1100 arm rests swivel out, and down, towards the ground, as well as rotating forward/back. They move quite a ways on both axes. Like I said, my wife and I switch positions on long rides, so I have personal knowledge of how they are to move out of the way for mounting/dismounting, as well as how they function as arm rests. They actually can be rolled in, under your arms, which kind of tucks you in between them; this is quite useful when you want to nap on the back, as it somewhat 'locks' you in place.
The passenger foot pegs are the Marvella's product. My wife says they don't help her much, but I find them nice, and they do extend my comfort riding on the back, as they shift the leg positions, and geometry, which really helps me. I'm 5' 11", and my wife is 5' 10", but we have different inseams, which accounts for the passenger pegs helping me, but not her.
I would highly recommend both the GL1100 Arm Rests (not terribly expensive; brand new, after-market), as well as the Marvella's Passenger Highway Pegs (they do not get in the way of the Driver, except when duck-walking the bike, and you let your legs go far behind before you lift your foot -- not good practice, pegs or no). For us, both accessories are worth every penny we paid for them, but we tour, 2-9 days, typically. If we were just riding around town, they would not matter; on long trips, they are priceless. Cheers!

Going back to your first post. I think the Utopia backrest is the best made for the XII.

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
Just to be clear. I installed a set of Chris Near KC's brackets. Very professional and of high quality. It should also be noted that these frame mounted and very sturdy brackets only adapt GL1500 armrests. New sets of these can be purchased for $85. My wife loves them!

Hi all,
I have read your comments. I have a 2009 Vulcan Voager with the rear speakers. I’m wondering if the GL1100 passenger arm rest will work. I also saw something about contacting Chris near Kansas City, but I am not sure of how to do that. Any guidance on finding passenger arm rests would be great thank you!

I think you will get a better response if you repost this in the 1700 Vulcan Voyager forum. If anyone has an answer it would be there.murtleturtle30 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 1:01 am Hi all,

Re: Let's talk ARM RESTS
Does anyone know if Chris near kc still makes these brackets? I seem to remember reading somewhere on here that he had quit making them
