Progressive Front Springs

Post by GrandpaDenny »

darn I'm sick of having to re-log in over and over and over and over again to post, or read a post, or see pictures. This really sucks.

Ok, now to the topic. Gertrude's new progressive front springs arrived today. I believe I have everything I need to change them out; I'm just not sure this is something I want to tackle in my apartment parking lot. One question, though... which way do the springs go, with the tighter coils up or down?

You can easily change them in a parking lot.

Dennis,
For many years, the common thought process was that the smaller coils should be at the bottom. However, over the years, it was determined that with the Progressive setup, either direction was just fine. I personally put progressives springs in with the smaller coils to the bottom. Just my standard for fork rebuilds. I also, always do a complete rebuild with new bushings and such whenever I install a set of Progressive Springs. That way the forks are at a 100% condition for the bike owner. The cost to do it right is nothing and the owners are surprisingly happy.
