If you're asking everybody ...

I use this hotlink (viewforum.php?f=15), and the only time I ever have to log in is when this posting a message problem screws up. I logged in with Remember Me long ago. I've only had to re-log in when this issue started and when you wanted me to fix another wreck by deleting the cookies. (As I recall, that turned out to be a problem with my carrier rotating IP addresses, some of them flagged as spam -- but NOT ME! The cookies didn't cause any apparent problem.)

> Do you see just your user name in the box - or if you move the pointer to the user name box does it then appear?
Or do you have to enter your user name?

As I recall, when re-logging in I had to enter my User Name -- both were blank. But when I entered the User Name, the password block populated.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I'm pretty sure I was still logged in the whole time. I think this script or whatever failed (intermittently) to find my log-in. Supporting evidence: I could just back up a few screens, paste my manuscript from the clipboard into the now-empty message box, and then hit Send. It sent, without ever logging back in. And I continued on the site, apparently logged in.

> Depending on how your browser is set up, makes the auto-login process work or not.

I'm skeptical this has anything to do with it because this problem is intermittent. It usually works fine. I think there's a code bug.

> So if you are having to enter user name and password when you go to the forum your browser may be set to delete all browser information on exit.

Again, I don't think that's at issue.

Okay, I mis-remembered. In a recent post, I got kicked out in mid-stream. I mean, one post I had just entered showed only a couple pictures, but did not show a couple more photos in the same post. I got a message that I needed to log on to see photos. I got to a log-in screen which showed my user ID, dots for password, and the Remember Me box was not checked.

For testing purposes, I re-loaded the website. I was not logged in. I hit LogIn and got the same log-in screen as above (user ID, dots for password, and the Remember Me box not checked). I logged in and then posted new replies with photos and without any more trouble.

I mean, we periodically get kicked off, I think only when posting replies. This can happen in the middle of viewing, or maybe just submitting, the reply. I was still logged off when subsequently hitting the bookmark. The website offered everything to log back in -- I didn't input anything. It was as if I had input my user name, but I didn't. The Remember Me was unchecked.

I suggest trying to post a message with about 5 attachments. The site puked me out on the fifth one of those in a row. I think other users have experienced worse odds.

Still trying to see if it is with in the program. I made a change and will have to see it that works. I will try and post attachment at another time. The max attachments is set at 6. I will see if I can get the results that you guys say is happening, but it is not a common occurrence for me. There is one thing that occures but not sure it could be what I'm doing. Nothing like getting logged out midstream. . Do you have a way to try it on a different system? If so I would give that a shot. When you say 5 attachment are you loading them all at the same time?

I thought it was five. Anyway, I got my post out (The Command).
Highway Rider wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:16 pmDo you have a way to try it on a different system?
Nope. I use Firefox. I still don't think that has anything to do with it.
Highway Rider wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:16 pmWhen you say 5 attachment are you loading them all at the same time?
Well, I put in five attachments to the same message, if that's what you mean. But I loaded them one-by-one, and then put them in-line where I wanted them before "attaching" the next. All seemed well until I hit Submit, when it took me back to the post (The Command). But my log-in apparently died in the middle of displaying my new reply -- displayed the first couple photos but not the last couple. (There's a chance I was hitting the thread some other way than besides a new Submit. I don't remember clearly; but also don't know how I'd get there besides Submit.)

I doubt this problem has occurred for anyone except when Submitting a new reply.

Intermittent problems are a bitch. I've used Chrome and Firefox on both Winduhs and Linux systems, matter of fact two different Linux systems, and same thing. Sometimes it works fine, others it's almost impossible to post (and sometimes get kicked out totally), and sometimes something in between there. Good luck, Jim!

I'm not saying that trying this is going to take care of the issue but it is not hinder the situation either.
Down at the bottom of all pages, you will see this green line.
In the green line, it will say delete board cookies. I have pointed it out with an arrow and it is also highlighted blue.
delete cookies1.jpg
What that will do is delete all cookies that you have associated with the forum and only this forum.
It will log you out and you will have to sign back in.
You may have to retype your User name and re-enter your Password and that will all depend on how your browser is set up, and if you have allowed it to remember those and auto-fill them for you.
If you do see both of them in the appropriate boxes then remember to select the remember me box.
Then click on the login button
This will reset your forum cookies with a new one.

Now what I would really like to know is if you are actually logged out. But the only way to know that is when it happens is to have someone log in and see if you are listed in the whos is online. This just has to be a registered user. It just can't be you.

If you are wanting to try this then let me know, and I will create a user name and send the information in a PM, for you to use to log in with, and also show you where I want you to look to see if you are logged in or not. The pm would include further instructions. This invitation is for Nails and GandpaDenny only all others will be ignored. So Nails And GrandpaDenny if you are interested, send me a PM and I will get the information to you as soon as I can.

Okay, just now I opened a thread and got the first photo, but the rest were .jpg filenames. I was no longer logged in. This is the first time I've been logged-out just perusing. Ever other time, it was when I was posting a new message.

The log-in screen had my credentials, but Remember Me was not checked. I checked it, hit Submit (or whatever), and all appears to be back to normal.

Also, every time I've gotten kicked out (including this one), I exactly got one photo. Apparently, I got kicked out between loading the first photo and coming to the second. (Since I wasn't replying, this means the first photo of the whole thread. When replying, I just mean the first photo of the subject post.)

Here's an example for how I get kicked out after exactly one legit image:
Untitled.png
.

And what happens next, when I try to create this very post.
Untitled.png
.

(Rats! I hope I haven't compromised national security with that!)

I checked Remember Me, hit Log In, and Life went on generally as expected. That is, I was able to see those original photos as I should've in the first place.

When I was submitting a post to electric cruiser about carb vent lines, while I was logged in, I got the dreaded you need to be logged in to post. I already was logged in and for some reason each time I tried to submit my post I got the same message. So I had copied the post and I logged in again and pasted my reply in the appropriate area and hit submit and once again I got the message telling me I needed to be logged in. How was I able to type a reply if I wasn't logged in? It showed me as logged in but it would not accept my submission because it said I was not logged in: this seems to be a case of a dog chasing it's own tail to me.
Using Copy and Paste does work but it is a real PITA having to do this and I do not think this is how the server, or program or whatever it is known as, is supposed to work. And yes I had checked "Remember Me" when I logged in.
Don't get me wrong I really like this forum and now that I copy and paste it is bearable but tonight was an extremely frustrating 4 time go around before I got my post to be accepted by the ghost in the machine.
I can imagine how frustrating this must be for newcomers if they experience the same problem.
I'm sure it will get resolved at some point. There, that's my harmless rant for this evening.
