Oops Gene I Think We Forgot Something

Post by GrandpaDenny »

I was doing some maintenance on Gertrude today, and a neighbor asked me what the hole in my right front fork was. Missing axle clamp bolt is what it was! I thought for sure I'd put it back in and torqued it when we replaced the front springs, but maybe not. I just looked at a picture taken after the spring job, and the bolt is there. So, at some point in the last few weeks it managed to fall out! I had been planning to ride with a buddy up to Williamsport tomorrow, but that ain't happening now. I will take a slow ride a mile and a half up the road to Autozone tomorrow to get a new nut and bolt or two! Methinks I'll also get some blue Locktite (I have plenty of red, but 'twould be nice to be able to get the nut off when it's time for a new front tire).

If the neighbor hadn't asked me about it, I wouldn't have noticed it. Yikes!

So we didn't forget it, Gene. It came loose and fell out.

It was much better to find it out in the driveway  ,than out on the road 500 miles from home. :tho:

Absolutely true. What's scary is that since we replaced the front springs I've ridden about 2000 miles. AND... it was me who replaced and torqued the axle clamp bolt. The new one is locktighted and jam nutted (gee does that sound painful to any other guys?) :!!

I like to think positively. If that should happen, think of it as hemorrhoid control.
