Elite 3 tires REAR for FRONT

Post by leghorn1956 »

Mt90-16 or 130/90-16 is the tire I'm talking about. I have an elite 3 MT90-16 REAR instead of a FRONT. HA.HA. Big mistake. I didn't notice that until I went for the installation . I had purchased both online , the front and rear at the same time for my Voyager. No luck getting an exchange , as it has been over 6 months since the purchase . The company is willing to help me with a discount on my next purchase , but I still have this one. The tire pattern is almost identical on both , but the rotation is opposite. Side by side it is hard to differentiate. I understand the stresses are different. The rear has torque imposed in one direction and some braking . On the other hand the front has braking and more side or turn pressure than the rear. I would not use a front as a rear. That said , I think using the rear as a front considering all the similarities might be ok , if I install it in the opposite direction of rotation.
Your help is appreciated.... Good or bad
Thanks again and have a safe weekend

That was a common trend in the trike community. Because of the rapid wear on the gold wing front tires. A rear Michelin tire was mounted backwards. We did that for two tires. Only problem was the amount of cupping to the tire.

In my non-expert opinion... You only have two tires between you, and the pavement. Go cheap if your life is cheap, and you don't care if you lose it.

Read up on the infamous Hurt Study, conducted by Hurt, MD, and his team -- all motorcyclists, themselves. I'm ATGATT, I've read the Hurt Study. I still choose to ride, but I employ as many safety measures as I can, to tip the scales in my favor. I also ride two-up, with the woman of my dreams, 98% of the time. I really press my thumb as hard as I can (really not a lot we can do, but I will take every single percentage point, I can squeak out), on the scales of risk-factor, to be in our collective favor. Tires are inexpensive, IMO. Try FB Marketplace to unload it, or e-Bay, and CraigsList.com, as well. YMMV. Cheers!

After a 30 second search: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/how-much-m ... than-cars/
  • 13 cars out of every 100,000 are involved in a fatal accident, but motorcycles have a fatality rate of 72 per 100,000.
  • for every mile traveled, motorcyclists are 35 times likelier to have a fatal accident than car drivers.
  • 98 percent of multi-vehicle collisions and 96 percent of single-vehicle accidents result in injury to a motorcyclist.
I think there's some room for personal decision-making.

And just to confuse things further, this article: https://advrider.com/riding-is-life-until-its-not-2/. (Hope posting that is "legal".)
