Another nice weekend excursion
Just got back from another wonderful weekend trip. Went down to land between the lakes in Kentucky again. Just a really pleasant ride. Nice scenery, good trip for a weekend getaway. My brother and his girlfriend went along this time. They absolutely loved the trip. They were on a VTX 1800 dressed up with a tour pack, me and wife on the trusty XII. We made a lot of stops along the way for drinks and bladder breaks, and of course the often very humorous conversation. We took the same route my wife and I had taken on the first trip a couple of months ago, but this time we headed further down the Trace road all the way into Tennessee. Stopped and toured the old log cabin someplace, a neat attraction. Headed back north after that, just enjoying the scenery and the gentle curving road. All in all a really nice weekend ride. And of course the old Voyager xii performed flawlessly. Absolutely love that bike.

Re: Another nice weekend excursion
I was planning to ride up the Natchez Trace, the whole thing, in September. But Amtrak came out with some smokin' deals and I bought a ticket instead. (I'm still building my shop and don't have enough time to catch up my XII's maintenance along with all other summer chores.)
I already regretted this decision even before your post. Next spring/summer.

Re: Another nice weekend excursion
Yeah, the trace road that we were on is only around
50 miles long, runs from highway 62 in grand rivers Kentucky to highway 79 in Tennessee. Runs right through land between the lakes, short ride but absolutely beautiful. However, the 400 plus mile Natchez Trace parkway is on my list for a long vacation ride. Brother wants to do a Wyoming trip, so lots of plans for riding ahead. Next year I will have more vacation time and plan on spending much of it on the VoyagerXII.

Re: Another nice weekend excursion
We rode down the Land Between the Lakes trace on the way back from the Voyager rally this year. Also rode part of the Natchez Trace; from Nashville to Tupelo, on the way to the rally. Enjoyed them both and would really like to ride the entire Natchez Trace one day. It was headed in the wrong direction to get to Springfield this year. Plus we wanted to check out Clarksdale Mississippi while we were in the general area. ...

Re: Another nice weekend excursion
Now that I look at the map ... a couple years ago, I rode across Land Between the Lakes on US 68. This was a trip coming back from DC to Santa Fe, via SW Ohio. I had spent the night at a campground at Mammoth Cave. I had a lot of rain, got tangled up on back roads, and my Fun Meter was running pretty low -- I sorta erased that heinous day from memory.Wormys_Dad wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 3:55 am Yeah, the trace road that we were on is only around 50 miles long, runs from highway 62 in grand rivers Kentucky to highway 79 in Tennessee. I didn't know about the Woodlands Trace Byway. Maybe I can fit it into next summer's trip. Plan to take the Natchez Trace to Nashville anyway. I bet I can find another way to SW Ohio (where I need to end up), maybe noodling through SE Indiana this time. Suggestions appreciated.
