brake update

Post by dr_makoki »

My main problem with my VG12, since I got it, has been a very outdated brake system, lacking in power for my taste.
I'm working on retrofitting a pair of Tomcat calipers, but in the meantime I've fitted ceramic pads, braided metal hoses, and, by far, the biggest upgrade has been fitting a Nissin 14mm master cylinder from a 2021 Africa Twin.
The difference in power and dosage is truly amazing, the bike is radically more efficient and safer, it is an improvement that I highly recommend

Nice one. I also think the brakes could be better. Kawasaki upgraded the front calipers on the GTR1000 (Concours 1000) from single pot to twin pot but not the Voyager. Shame.
Could you let us have the make & model of bike the calipers are off, as Tomcat means an aircraft to me.
I do remember the ZX10 from the 80’s getting the Tomcat name.
I’m also on the other side of the pond in Wales so names may vary.
I’ve already fitted braided metal hoses which made a good improvement to braking. The Voyager is a big old heavy beast & any upgrade as got to be good, I ride my 1200 like I ride my GTR1000, Fast.
This may be a good upgrade also for the ZN1300.

hello, yes, you are right, my calipers come from the 88-90s Kawasaki ZX10, they are asymmetric two-piston calipers, the measurements are similar to the original ones of the VG12 but with a different clamping distance, I am preparing a oxycut fixing plate adapted to the measurements of the VG screws
