hot starting problem
86 1200 usually fires right up, but after running a while or even after sitting in the sun acts as though it is flooded if it doesn't Fire on the first revolution. Seems to happen more frequently. Usually, if I let it set for half hour it will either start normally or will if I hold throttle open. Doesn't help to remove gas cap. When it starts the exhaust doesn't look like flooding. Has a new fuel filter....almost like a vapor lock. Has anyone similar experience?

Re: hot starting problem
How old are the spark plugs? Old or defective plugs can cause this problem. Though your problem sounds more serious, my '95 was slow starting when warm. New plugs and it fires right up now when warm.

Re: hot starting problem
Could be. Plugs are old because the bike sat for 5 years with a broken starter chain, but it did the same thing when the plugs were new. I'm not confident it is flooding or not getting gas. I have never ridden this bike much, so I'm trying different scenarios. I've found that if it does't immediately start, that if I choke briefly and then crank with open throttle that it starts. Also, I am running the original igniter that I suspect may be the problem, but I hate to spend the money to find out. I didn't replace the igniter because the replacement starter chain was substantially heaver than the OEM which lasted 55,000 mile. If someone knows better than I that the igniter may be the culprit, then I would likely change it.
