Re: mirror extensions
AWWWWWWW. I really, really, really appreciate mine. They put the mirror out farther so I can see around my arms and hands. Pulling a trailer, I find them invaluable.crownman56 wrote:Jim Aynes has informed me he no longer makes the mirror extensions.
Jim you helped myself and many others so I just want to go on record thanking you for this service.
Sincerely,

Yes, join! However, you should be able to see the photos now. Odd...sillybiscuit wrote:Thanks Ron. I dont have permission to view the pictures though.

Re: mirror extensions
Not sure what the problem is. I did make one change that may or may not work. Try it again.Bill from Md wrote:I couldn't view the pictures either

Re: mirror extensions
Any idea what material was used to make those extensions? I could see using wood, but I'd prefer something non-porous, and easy to carve/shape/sand/etc. Cheers!

Re: mirror extensions
According to Jim's post (the link I posted above) he used HDPE plastic sheet.

Re: mirror extensions
OK. Thanks. It appears he never went into production of them. Seems like we are on our own to come up with such things. Too bad. There are many materials to choose from. Off to the mad scientist laboratory I go... Hope I survive the experiments! Cheers!

Re: mirror extensions
I wonder if this would be something that a 3D printer could do? Is it affordable?

Re: mirror extensions
Yes, a 3-D printer could produce such a piece, if someone designed it. I have no skills in this area, unfortunately.
I went in search, yesterday, for possible materials to construct extenders out of. I looked up HDPE, but gluing it seemed more hassle than I wanted to bother with. I also looked up ABS plastic, as this is what was commonly used for Vetter fairings, and even some Honda fairings. ABS plastic is easy to work with, and gluing it is easy: ABS Glue is available at any hardware store, as it is used for gluing plastic plumbing pipes. ABS Glue is made of ABS plastic dissolved within a solvent: once the solvent evaporates, only the ABS plastic is left behind. I've used ABS Glue to repair Vetter fairings, as well as make repairs on my Voyager XII fairings, with decent success. I think I can make a pattern, bend, cut, and glue/weld the ABS plastic into extensions without breaking the bank. Time will tell. Cheers!

Re: mirror extensions
I am looking into making some of these.
It looks like ABS is the most cost affective material to use.
I can machine them out of one pc.
I think I can make them for somewhere around $40.00 a set.
What are your thoughts on that.

Re: mirror extensions
I have the material and I am working up a prototype to make sure they fit the bike properly.
I should have something workable in a week or two.
