How do you open the radio cover without pulling the frame?
The V XII sound system has a cover that attaches to its frame by two side clips.
If you just pull the cover off, the clips catch the frame and also pull it out.
What's the trick to pulling just the cover out without also pulling the frame that has the side slots that the clips fit into?
I would appreciate any suggestions.

I'd love to know the answer to that question myself!

what commonly causes this is the rubber mounts on the side of the radio are broken or worn out, this lets the radio sag, causing a bind on the cover, when you attempt to remove the outer cover it pops the cover and the mask off at the same time.

Re: How do you open the radio cover without pulling the frame?
I just finished rebuilding my fairing, so the original question didn't make sense til I read about ther broken mounts. I replaced the rubber mounts on my radio, accessed by removing the upper fairing plastic. The parts were cheap, like 6 something for both pieces. Steve

What do you mean by the "upper fairing"? I'd like to know more specifically what to remove to get at the rubber mounts.

What he means by upper fairing, is every painted piece of plastic in front of your body when you sit on the bike, except for the faux tank cover in front of your, um, seat. In other words, the pieces that have the blinkers and running lights on the front of the bike.
Edit: the fender does not need to come off.
Edit part deux: Remove the following....
mirrors
chrome trim at base of windshield
windshield
headlight bezel
lower fairings - in front of your shins
upper fairings - everything else with paint on it between the lower fairing and windshield

Re: How do you open the radio cover without pulling the frame?
I bought a cover because my bike didn't have one when I bought her but discovered that the bezel was actually broken (at the bottom and one tab) and couldn't hold the cover in place. It had been glued (sort of) on. I bought a new bezel and discovered that my radio wasn't "straight" in the opening (it was inset slightly on one side) so I removed the fairing (as described above) and got it to adjust slightly so that the bezel and the cover now fit. I did note that the rubber mounts on the side are broken, so I need to order replacements the next time I have her torn apart.
More work than I was expecting but worth it. I don't use the bike's radio too much (bluetooth music/audio books from my handlebar-mounted phone to my Nolan helmet) and I have an another clock so I leave it covered much of the time...

OK, which rubber mounts are you talking about?
