Cure for loose vent registers. Voyager 1200.

I don't know if this counts as a tech tip but if any of you guys have been frustrated by any of the 4 vent registers being loose on your Voyager. I have and it really flustered me the first summer I had her, especially the ones on the dash would flip side to side on any kind of bump. I figured out a cure. I took the fuzzy side of some self sticking industrial velcro, made some 1/2 wide strips and attached them to side of the rotatable portion of the vent. It gives them just enough grip to stay in position for almost any occasion. They don't even have to go the full length of the vent side to work. BTW this is an invisible fix..

I rtv'd the back side of the register housing on the bottom while I had the fairing off. Set the register in a position left / right that will provide air where you want it, and let the rtv set. No more wiggle - waggle, and the fix is invisible. Steve

I used a copper washer, adding preload to the vent. Old Freighliners used the same type of vent and they had these small rubber or foam washer to take up the slack. I had this copper washer in my tool box and after cutting away about 1/3 of it I was able to slip in on the upper tang of the vent. You have to look real hard to see it, my other three vents are still good. The copper washer was used on the base of a fuel injector on a Cummins 4bt engine.

All of these repairs are great.

Hey HMB Don or whoever,
Has anyone acquired a Freightliner air vent to replace the stock Kaw? The only ones with pics that I could find on-line are plastic chrome, so I figure one of you show horses must've done this already. Two sizes - the long vent & the short one. Without knowing dimensions, the long one looks like our vents. Looks like they cost about $6 each plus freight.
