Gear change problem
I'm having a shifting problem, which I hope someone can help with. I have just installed a set of floorboards, which involves rotating the linkage arms through 180 degrees. When I finished, I could shift into first and back into neutral, but I could not change up. Assuming this to be a linkage problem, I took it apart and re assembled it - four times, but it still didn't work. I tried attaching the shift lever directly to the shaft without the linkage, and it seems it can only turn one way.
I've never had a shifting problem before. It seems my next step would be to check the external shift mechanism, but the instructions in the manual are a little unclear. Is this a major job? Do I need to drain the oil?-- remove the engine?

Re: Gear change problem
do not panic!!, the voyager will not shift into a higher gear untill you are rolling. this is part of the positive nuetral finder in the gearbox. put it back togeather and try it on the roll........sorry for the double post..

Re: Gear change problem
OK 1st were you driving or sitting still? If iam not mistaken it wont shift till your going like 10 15 mph. (was told by Carl) so if your not moving it will not go in to second. This happened to me and it was because the PO had the bike apart and the spring in side the bevel gear turned 90 DEG and the shift fork could not slide back and allow the shift barrel to turn. I don’t think this is your problem unless you had the bevel gear housing off. I could be wrong and some one with more experience will chime in.

Re: Gear change problem
Thanks for the advice to Dave and Carl. On another topic, I boasted yesterday how nice the weather was, but what a difference a day makes! Looks like it may be some time before I get to act on your advice. By the way, Carl, the floorboards look good and feel comfortable on a parked bike.
Thanks again.

Re: Gear change problem
Forget the 10-15 mph thing. Mine won't shift when cold unless the rpm is above 3000. Yeah it's the one annoying thing that drives me up the wall but the thing has a personality of it's own.

Re: Gear change problem
Thanks for all the advice. Got a change in the weather, so I tried riding the bike. You all were right, it works fine, just the way it always did. I've awarded myself a Duuh.

Nothing I like more than getting Duuh beer out of the fridge just in time to watch Duuh Bears!
