Just today we hit 217 on the trip OD and the fuel light came on - decided I had enough and went closer to my home exit. At 244 miles (27 miles after the light came on) - put in 5.5 gallons, the most I ever have in one fill-up!

95% of the time, I have the gas station search radar on once I reach 200 miles - today was the exception.

This was all two up riding = 80% at 65 MPH on California highways. works out to be 44.3 MPG with the 'GT 26' ClearView screen (Wider and Taller). 41 K on the bike - and use Chevron Regular 87 octane - Checked carb balance two weeks ago with another NorCal Club member (Marvin!) and found we were right on with no tweaks. Running Rotella 15-40W.

Got my float issue resolved, no longer peeing gas out the overflow tubes at shut-off. Mileage, on a 500+ mile trip this past weekend, with some 65 MPH travel, and a lot of 55 MPH travel, two-up, with luggage, was averaging around 43 MPG -- before the float issue, and carb overhaul, it was averging 38 MPG.

Would love to get in the low 50's, but it doesn't look like it will happen. Some folks just got a bike that was put together on a better day in the factory, I guess. :wnk2:

Not that it makes a difference, but I run with 5W-40 Rotella T6 oil. Nothing else is non-standard except that my bike has the OEM CA emissions package, which has been bypassed. Don't know if it would do better with the CA crap hooked up, or not. Tempted to try it with the CA stuff connected, as I had a '79 Ford LTD with a CA-emissions, variable venturi carburetor on it, 302 V-8: averaged 32 MPG highway; when the carb failed, couldn't find a mechanic to fix it outside of the dealership, put a bolt-on Holly carb on it, and the mileage dropped to 22 MPG...
:-O Cheers!

With the 44.3 MPG posted earlier - this is with the California emissions package - all hooked up and in use.

Thanks! Glad to know I am not the only rider with the CA emissions package on my bike. :oh:

Thanks for sharing the mileage info. It helps. I am getting close to those numbers with it bypassed, so the time, and money, of hooking it back up would not be worthwhile. Much appreciated. Cheers!

Filled the tank last night for the first time since getting home from the IPV rally. 170 miles and 5.9 gallons. You can do the math, but it's not good, LOL. Had an easy ride last night, maybe 80 miles. Might fill it up tonight and see if it's just the type of riding and speeds and wind.

Regarding the California Emissions Package - You may want to check to see if the rubber bands are still holding the two cartridges in place - the small round one near the rear master brake cylinder - that one is easy to get a new band around, with out taking much off beside the cover. I have a 1996 and straps on both the large square and small round canister were broken.

The second and larger rectangle canister sitting in front of the gas tank and behind the fuel filter - I worked for two hours trying to get the replacement band on. Not from the side (with the coolant overflow tank out), nor from the bottom - even though I have more room since I have COBRA pipes. Anyone know of a way to replace with out removing the fuel tank?

So, what I did was get some high density foam and glue to the top of the swing arm. Now the canister sits on the foam and is not bouncing around when I hit a bump. The hoses going into the canister were not keeping the canister up off the cross bar of the swing arm.

I have included a few pictures - take a look at this site - http://www.ehnisz.com/VoyagerXII1.htm
The Fuel Canister is the last one in the series - I also solved the problem of the first stage kick-stand banging against the Cobra Pipes with the same material.

Filled up tonight, 199 miles 4.1 gals = 48.53659 miles per gallon, mostly city riding. Going on a few hundred mile trip this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, will keep records of mileage and post when I get home. Going on a ride to nowhere around the state of Florida. Just me my bike and cell phone turned off, now that's living. :gig:

Low fuel light came on today at 200 miles right on the nose. Must just be the interstate travelin' that screws with my numbers.
