For those of us buying and/or installing the last of the Marvellas Passenger foot pegs, here's an installation tip. If the small peg does not fit into the OEM foot rest hinge as indicated by the instructions, you may need to auger this out a little bit. Older bikes get road corrosion on the inside of the hinge tube and in some cases (Mine) the flange had expanded a fraction of an inch making it impossible to install according to the instructions.
Augering the corrosion out with a drill just slight larger than the inner diameter of the hinge tube will do the trick. All I had available was a 3/8 in. bit, so this widened the hollow quite a bit, but I only had to go in about a 1/4 in. Once this was done, a rubber mallet and some prayer got the peg to fit properly.
I had placed a call into Marv & Ella and they graciously called me back that same afternoon. However, I had already resolved the issue, though they confirmed the solution. This has been a known issue on the older bikes.
On the first install, I ended up taking off the entire OEM foot rest to figure the issue out. The second install went much smoother and by removing the hinge tube, drilling it out a bit and installing the Marvallas Foot peg, the operation took only a few minutes.
Thank you Marv & Ella for the callback on a late saturday afternoon. It was great talking to you!
I (& my Wife) highly recommend these rests if you don't already have them. Passenger comfort is a must and these make a difference that the passenger can move their feet to a different position. An added bonus is that they look good! I don't know how many of these they have left, but I'm sure they are limited quantities after the fire. Once they are gone, that's it!
