Hi, All!
I was driving my cage down a local street, and saw a V17 sitting in front of a 'Ma & Pa' type car dealership. Being curious, I went in to check on it, and then to the bank for a loan. A week later, after some huffin' and snortin' (You know how banks are), I became the proud owner of a 2010 Voyager in 'grey' with about 2650 miles on it. I took it home, and after fixing some problems (the front tire had 12 psi in it) have been riding it to work, and on a short trip or 2. I also went to the dealer and ordered a new owners manual (there was none with the bike), found out that the warranty still had 1.5 years on it (had it transferred), and talked to the service mgr about it. I di have a few questions, though. What grade of gas are you supposed to use? What oil weight and type? Does it ALWAYS shake this much?? How do I access the trip computer (remember, I don't have a manual-yet!)? I'm sure I'll have more questions later. This is the first V-twin I have owned, all my previous bikes have been multis, so the jury is still out as far as maintenance ease and roadability goes. One thing I do like-NO &%$#!!!^& OIL SIGHT GLASS!! I might end up liking the ol' gal.

Re: New V17 Owner
HANK CONGRADULATIONS ON THE NEW BIKE.
Yo answere your questions.
1 90 oct but 89 is OK
2 I have switched to Mobil ! synthetic V Twin 50/20 which you should run with your higher heat in the NM area.
3 there are a couple of things your idle should be 900. that is easy to fix it once you get your owners manual it is done wit the controls on the right handlebar. If you call me I can talk you through it or have your dealer show you. The second is have they changed the ECU unit they gave the 2010 the new upgrade make sure if they have not tell them you want a new one not a refurbished one they had problems with them. The new ECU made a big difference in the way the bike runs.
4 The trip meter on the right handlebar controls there is a mode a and a mode b the button will have a S on it. push to mode Band thathat will move the trip meter there are 3 settings OD Trip A and Trip B when resetting your trip settings just hold till it 0s out it is a nice feature I use my A for gas stops and B for trips.
Hank If you have any other questions give me a call it would be great to hear from you we have not talked in a long time. And I am sure Rod would be glad to help you out also.
GOOD LUCK

Re: New V17 Owner
Me Again, I really miss Rusty. Wish I'd never gotten rid of her. The V17 is really different. Duane, I have an owners' manual on order through the dealer, and when the dealer changed the warranty over, the info from MaKaw said that there were no outstanding recalls on the bike, so I'm ASSUMING I have the new ECU. It's just going to take some getting used to. This 'is' my first V-twin.

Re: New V17 Owner
The bike should not shake. It does have a single pin crank so you will feel the power pulses. For many, the power pulses are much more tolerable than the high frequency buzzing that can occur with I-4 engines. High frequency buzzing is what puts fingers to sleep.
Engine configuration is a personal preference for sure. I prefer the single and two cylinder bikes because they are torquey and make their power in the lower RPMs which I find better for street riding.
There is a guy from Canada who has over 150,000 miles on his '09 Voyager. No repair work, just maintenance.

Re: New V17 Owner
It shakes a little due to it being a V twin , probably engineered by MaKaw to give it character (lol). It really doesn't shake much in comparison to most Vtwins. The engine actually is very smooth. In fact after climbing off my brother's Shovelhead it feels like it doesn't shake at all. Very smooth and a nice bike to ride, just wish the gastank was a full 6 gallons instead of the 5.3. Congrats on the new scooter and safe travels.
