If you want the bike to look modern, you could do carbon fiber looking vinyl.
I was just watching youtube videos of painting things to look like carbon fiber.. So I may consider doing that for all the areas of the black which wouldn't cause reflection issues. The other areas more pone to reflection I may just repaint with a flat clear coat.

Also I haven't read up on the radio upgrades yet, but I'll do that and see if I want to get that done as well. I'm not too bad with electronics so maybe i'll tinker around.. maybe not. Anybody put in any aftermarket players with fold out LCD's and integrated navigation? So much potential!! haha I still have yet to pick up my bike! Baby steps.. but can't help being excited.

Question regarding Air Compressor used in painting..

What are your thoughts on the following model?:

Its a gas powered 6hp 12CFM at 100PSI compressor 8 gallon tank, which should be fine but what do you think about the air temp? I read that you need the air temp to remain cool in order to have good quality paint jobs. I'm not worried about the CFM requirements but mostly about air temp? Any feed back would be appreciated.

Also I can get a great deal on a brand new model, which is why I was considering it.

The problem with the dual tank compressors like that one is air volume, It's good for short blast of air for a nail gun or something like that, not so good for a constant air flow at a steady pressure, also VERY important, Water Filters, mosture is a bi-product of compressing air. In-Line filters are avail. for that and always a good idea even for air-tools. Air heats when it's compressed, that should be no problem. The bigger the tank the more volume it will put out for a longer amount of time.

So do you have any recommendations on how big a tank I may need in my future painting endeavor specific to the voyager? I don't really plan on using a compressor for operating tools..at least yet. Also any particular brands or models that you could point out would be super! And i'll keep the water filter in mind. Thanks

1st) is what is the price you can or want to pay, 2nd) what are you going to use it for now and in the future, 3rd) what space do you have for a compressor, the only time you want a gas compressor is if you are using it outside in construction, if you are looking for a small compressor a 5hp oil compressor is better then a 5hp oiless compressor, with a 25-30 gallon tank, run a upside down U on the wall with water drains on each end try to angle the top of the line slightly back towards the compressor so the water drains away from you and back towards the compressor, put a filter & regulator on, you will hear you can't do it, but you can use 1/2" PVC 400psi if you can find 600psi the better, use a piece of small airline to separate the compressor vibration from the airline, I have been using for may years with no problems.

I am painting our Voyager 1200 Ruby Slippers from the PPG Vibrance Collection and Black, using factory design and if the bike has never been painted you can sand it down smooth without sanding into the decal I did that on one of the parts,I DA'd everything then wet sanded everything by hand with 400 and a foam sanding block, I used a big tote and filled with water makes wet sanding easier, before any sanding wash everything dawn dish soap then clean everything with wax & grease remover then after sanding wash and clean everything again would use ppg epoxy primer and reduce with thinner and use as a sealer before painting they have colors to match what color your painting

I took apart my 1998 when I first bought it.Everyone thought I'd lost my mine to take a new bike apart and paint it. The Kawasaki Rep told me a white XII was coming out for 98/99 but didn't.I wanted a new bike but did not like the Green.
I painted mine a White Pearl, I had a GL1500 spoiler on My 87 so I added one to my 98 too. I had custom saddlebag skirts and a fiberglass front fender extension made. It's got nicks and scratches in it but doesn't look bad with a 14 year old paint job....

My '96 is a repaint. The red had faded to pink in most places, so I removed all the plastic and had a friend in CA do the job.
Hard to see from my avatar, but it's mostly black with red flake.
