Motor storage

Was wondering the best way to store a motor. Have had the 91 up for sale with no nibbles. Was figuring id canabalize or part it out but was planning to save the motor for the future. Any info is appreciated. Dan

I'd go get some shrink wrap like they use at Home Depot to wrap pallets, wrap the engine tightly and keep it in a dry preferably air controlled environment. pour a little oil into the spark plug holes and replace the plugs, keep oil in the transmission to keep moisture out of it. put it on a small wooden pallet. Of course before you'd use the engine again replace the oil. Make sure you seal any openings, manifolds, water jacket holes to keep critters out.

Take the spark plugs out, squirt some motor oil in the holes and then run the starter motor to crank the engine and distribute the oil to the cylinder walls. Put the plugs back in and seal all the holes like has already been mentioned. Don't forget the water pipes/ports.

I'd be willing to take the 91 off your hands if you are wanting it to have a good home. It would have a friend in the 90 that I have currently and would be next to my 69 Kawasaki that is being restored and my wifes DL1000 Vstrom....just saying, It would be happy and taken care of,

Fogging oil (like what is used to store outboard motors) sprayed into spark plug holes works well...Also, make sure the crank case has fresh oil in it (I have seen instances where contamination in old oil causes pitting/corrosion on cranks & cams)...
