Saddlebag Lid
Hello
I'm New member. I'm from Poland and I just bought the Voyager in 1999. I have a question - does anyone have to sell the left saddlebag lid to zg 1200?
Regards gery 73

Re: Saddlebag Lid
....gery... I understand that they are getting scarce these days, as many have came off while riding, for whatever reason, and the truck behind you makes a pancake of it ! many guys are now "tethering" the lids to the base. I did mine quick and easy with a couple of long heavy zip ties..... There are a few cycle salvage shops in this area, I will check for a left, and p.m. you if successful. tony

Re: Saddlebag Lid
Any year fits your bike. Check Ebay or salvage yards. You'll probably have to paint it to match your color

Re: Saddlebag Lid
And really IMPORTANT, when you get your new lid, NEVER RIDE WITHOUT LOCKING THE LIDS!!!!!!!!!! Many lids have passed XII owners on the road, tethers are also highly recommended too, but ALWAYS lock those lids with the key.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
I learned that the hard way! Should of been stated in the owners manual IMO.
On one of my first trips back in 2005, My left lid flew off, bounced down the road. Amazingly thou, didn't get run over and just a few light scratches. Almost hit the bike behind me.
Since then the lids are locked & tied to the bike.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
When you get your Voyager XII the FIRST thing you need to do is make some tethers for your saddle bag lids. Make this the first mod you do! There is always a possibility that you can still buy the lids new. You might check all years of Voyager XII's on bikebandit.com or another OEM supply outfit.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
Hello from NJ, While out with the Harley guy's and gal's yesterday. I was looking at their lid hinges and was wondering has anyone tried to affix their's to our XII lid's ? I live about a mile from Nicks, Harley D. and might just give it a try. Seems like we have just enough room for it to work. It may be a winter project for me and I 'll keep ya'll posted.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
Can someone give me the info and pics of how to make the tethers? When the tethers are installed I assume the lid rests along the side of the bag when removed.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
You can use either fish line or braided nylon shoelace material about 8' To 12" long. Just get some electrical eylets and crimp on the ends of the line. The locks on the bags have small screws in them you just attach the eylets to the acorn nut on the inside for the front one and I think the rear one you may have to drill out a rivet and install screw in it's place, same as front real simple. There were kits available for a long time for only $5.00 for these. Drag Specialties used to carry them & also some others. They were made for the older Gold Wings. These are a must for the XII's!!!! + always!!! lock bag lids.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
I found that medium duty (blue) weed wacker line worked great. Also make sure you use blue Locktite on those little acorn nuts on the locks. They will vibrate off over time.

Re: Saddlebag Lid
I got some heavy boot strings and some of those quick disconnect key rings from Wallyworld, made then so I could remove the lids if I needed, less than $10.00 for the whole deal.
Here's a shot of what they looked like before I put them on.
