OK. 1st, welcome to the site, you will find everything you need to know here, 86 was the first year for the 1200, the main thing you need to find out ASAP is if the ingiter has been updated, there was a problem with the 86 and some 87's breaking the starter chain when starting with a less than fully charged battery, if that happens it is a engine out and split the case repair IF it don't break the case, if that happens it is a engine swap, there are numbers on the ingiter, I can never remember what one is the old one and the new one, someone will chime in of search it here, be very careful buying one on E-Bay, if you can't read the numbers on it DO NOT buy it, some of the sellers know of the problem and will take the numbers off and sell them anyway, any ingiter from 1988 up will be the updated one. Other than that you have got a bulletproof ride, with a little TLC it will go over 300k. Burns Regular fuel, great gas mileage and loves the open road. If it hasn't already been done I suggest installing Progressive front spring and rear shocks and doing away with the air shocks, you 86 will need different front springs than the rest of them because the fork tubes are a tick smaller that year, if you run air now. no more than 7 lbs in the front and I have had as much as 50 in the rear. Tire pressures, 40 in the front and rear, Dunlop E-3's are the preferred tire for most. MOST IMPORTANT, CARL LEO, he is our XII guru, he can be found here, he can give advise and supply some parts, he has semi-retired here in Florida now but will help you out.

At that price you are in good shape. Igniters can be got for between 2 and 300.00, but there is a chance it has already been changed.
