Carb Question

Post by fasteddie5150 »

I have a 1991 Voyager and I am having some issues i believe with the carbs, it sat for a while when i was overseas, and now it is having a hard time idling and doesn't really run right. I have to cover up almost 3/4 of the intake whole to get it to perform anything. I just feel that I don't have the time nor the money to mess with it right now, and will probably have to part was with it. Anything is helpful by maybe i am missing something small mechanically or if anyone is interested in purchasing the bike.

This might sound too simple but try draining the carb bowls, make sure your fuel is fresh and add double/triple dosage of Seafoam to the fuel. Get it started and let it idle for a good 45-60 minutes.
If its fuel related that should clean it up. Seafoam will clean fuel, carbs and jets, its not a miracle additive but does work wonders.

Don't be so quick, it seriously could be something that simple. Others have used Murphy's Miracle additives but I've had outstanding results with it. Had a '85 Honda VT500 I got in 2005 and it sat for three years outside. Fellow got it running and I bought it, a few months later it wouldn't run to save it's life. It would idle but as soon as I put it in gear it would die, same as it was starved for fuel. A friend told me about Seafoam and I did it. I drained the tank, added fresh fuel and a triple the dosage of Seafoam. Let it run for an hour and then took it for a ride. Dam thing ran like a rapped ape!
You are lucky enough to be in the same state as the master mechanic of Voyager XII's, his name is Carl Leo. He's retired now (actually has been for a while but we won't let him alone) but he may be able to talk you through some trouble shooting if that don't work for you.
