cross over tube

Post by Lance McCaw »

Got all my O-rings for the crossover tube behind radiator today and all other O-rings. Gonna fix that antifreeze leak on my 1986 1200 Saturday. Wish me luck. Also got my RAM mount for my GPS.

Good luck! Finally tracked down my leak a couple days ago. Just the lower radiator hose.

Be carefull removing the pipe. Soak it down the night before then pry it off working from one side to another. The pipe is a little thin and you can damage it by "beating up on it". If you work slowly you shouldn't have any problems. Best of luck...........Gator Mike

The same goes for re-installing the cross over. It is kind of thin aluminum and you will need to lube the O-rings before installation. Then, snug it down evenly at each attachment point and be careful you don't have the O-rings move from the mounting groove or "fold" which can cause a leak.

If you happen to pinch any of the new o rings, (its possible to do even with all the precautions), you can find an alternative (one or two in a multiple pack) from Autozone..
They were in a pack of Viton O rings.. Light brown in color..
Expensive way of doing it, but got me out of a corner when I pinched mine..

I run softsoap (liquid hand soap) around the inside of the ports on the engine as well as around the o-rings on the manifold.

Back in my technical school day, we were trained to use oil in areas where petroleum base fluids came into contact. Where coolant type fluids would come in contact, we used Joe's Hand Soap (the plain, white kind).
