Mirrors

New to the forum along with my "new to me" 86 voyager. I was thinking about changing my mirrors because I pushed the handlebars out a little bit for comfort and now my rear view is restricted via mirrors. I was thinking of changing to mirrors mounted on the handlebar since there appears to be a threaded mounting. Has anyone done this and any preference to ones that look good?

I experimented with mirrors on the handlebars but didn't like it. Had to turn my head too much to see them whereas with the stock mirrors it's just a matter of moving my eyes. Someone on the forum makes mirror extenders you may find more useful. Hopefully they will chime in.

I haven't done anything with my mirrors but I'm pretty sure I've seen a bike that had both. The guys reasoning was when towing a trailer he wanted to have a wider view so he could adjust them for different views. I tow and don't have any issues but I haven't adjusted my bars outward either.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't, just search for mirrors with glass large enough to give you a field of view that is satisfactory to you. My first thought was the same as Ron's though, mirror extenders would push them out a few inches at their factory locations which should work perfectly for you.

Highly recommend them. Since I tow and am also a rather large person, they help a lot. Bought mine from Jim back at Kanab in 2012 and couldn't imagine riding without them. I also went to a parts store there in Kanab and bought small angled view convex mirrors. I stuck them on in the flat on the extenders and they really help with seeing if someone is to my side (harder to read at night though because of size and everything is just blobs of light - but that could be my eyes).

Hey Rob, that's what we are here for. Help others with the same interest enjoy it as much as possible. Some folks are skillful enough to create what other can't, but willing to share both the ideas and product if interest is there. I've gotten a few items for mine to enhance the ride (mostly for my wife) allowing me to ride more often and farther in comfort.
