Wrist Gaiters? ? ? ?

Here's my problem. My winter/cold weather riding gloves, though gauntlet style, don't fully seal off my jacket sleeve. The gauntlets fit over about 90% of the sleeve but where the sleeve of the shell zips to the sleeve of the mesh jacket there is a small (and puckered) opening that is not sealed between the beginning of the zipper that goes around the wrist and the end of the zipper. The gloves cover everything except this opening and it "hangs out" in the wind that comes around the fairing. This cold wind is forced up my sleeve and cools me down when I'm trying to stay warm.

So, what I would like is some type of wrist gaiter where the "front" of the gaiter fits into the glove gauntlet and around my wrist, and the "rear" of the gaiter fits completely over the end of the coat sleeve, effectively sealing off any opening that would allow cold air up the sleeve.

Short of buying some nylon, elastic, and maybe some Velcro and making a custom pair (meaning I would have to find someone who sews) I was wondering if any of you knew of any commercial product that would do the job? I've found ski and snowmobile wrist gaiters but these fit under the sleeve and I need something to fit over the fat, thick sleeve of a motorcycle jacket.

Or maybe some other ideas? ? ?

I say make a couple pairs yourself, test em out, and sell them to the rest to us other cold weather suckers! May be a patentable idea. Something like leg warmers that go ofer the back of your glove and front of your sleeve.

Hey Ron,
Some time back (can't remember who) someone made themselves a pair out of a broken umbrella. The material is waterproof and basically wind proof so if you're not looking for added warmth or bulkiness then give this a shot.
Basically make two loose fitting sleeves open at each end obviously then add elastic to each end. Tight enough to hold but not too tight!
Can pick up a cheap umbrella in a Dollar store or use an old windbreaker jacket that needs tossed anyway. That would give you the sleeves with elastic on one end already!

Thanks Scott, I hadn't thought about using an old umbrella. But that is my basic idea for making some - make a tube (sleeve) out of nylon with elastic at each end. I'm not looking for added warmth, just want to keep the wind from blowing up my sleeve!

I had a similar problem with wind coming up from under the fairing and blowing up my pant leg. Thought about getting some ski gaiters but found some inexpensive rain boots at Cycle Gear that fit over the boot and up to mid-calf. That closed off the pant leg opening and made a huuuuuge improvement in keeping warm! And the rain boots are also waterproof, and added bonus. Sure could have used them in Indiana and Ohio at last year's rally! (My "waterproof" boots are anything but!)

If they are like my old "water proof" boots, they were the best at being waterproof. Waterproof in the sense that once water got in them it never got out!

I run with Hippo Hands for a good chunk of the winter. I do not have heated grips, but these will not let any air get into sleeve. Have had the same pair for over 12 years, and they are a used pair.

Interesting. Their model for the Voyager XII are generics, size "Medium, with mirrors", i.e. not made specifically for the XII. So I wonder how they would fit over the radio controls??

A wrist gaiter would still work better for me as I now do have heated gloves.


They have stopped making hippohands and their business and website are up for sale! When their current inventory is sold they will be out of business.

Two 8" lengths of motorcycle-sized inner tube? Use a silver magic marker to mark them left & right so you don't put them on the wrong wrist.

+1 on the hippo hands. I bought a pair (not hippo hands) for atv's at M/C Superstore for my old KLR. I tried and they fit the XII.
