oil pressure switch 2002 voyager

Post by Mart656 »

Hello everyone. I have a leak that I believe is coming from the oil pressure switch based on some of the information from previous post. I am baffled :hmm: because sometimes it will leak (and never very much, maybe a spot the size of a quarter) and sometimes it may not leak at all for a few ride and then poof it leaks again. Curious if anyone else has had the same problem and do you all think it would be the oil pressure switch. I did notice this last time that there was oil on the rubber cover over the two wires. Your opinions are greatly appreciated  :bravo:

Mart......
I developed a leak on my 2003 a while back. Like yours it was just annoying and not much of a leak. So......I paid no mind to it for sometime. I finally decided to follow my own advice and completely clean (spray wash) the underside of the bike so I could find the leak.
Long story short, the leak was from around the oil drain bolt, closest to the oil filter. So, when I changed the oil, I got me a few new "crush washers", changed the oil, snugged the drain bolts down, and now my driveway is dry and spotless, again....
Moral of the story....... Clean everything up real good. And, as others have suggested, use some baby powder, flour, etc., and really find where the leak is from. A leak that appears to be around the oil pressure switch, oil sight glass, etc, can be from many other locations and just migrate to that point. (Since gravity will help it migrate when the bike is on the side stand.)

Thanks Bill O. I will do just that. I was set to do it today when it got to 50 degrees but chose to put family first and go see a sick relative. I will post results once I get a chance to do that. I'm splitting my time working on the voyager and a 68 Chevelle Malibu with my son. There will be more work with the Chevelle. lol It's actually not in bad shape.

Spend as much time with your son as you can. The voyager will be there long after he has left the nest. I don't figure I'll be around for 300K miles like some voyagers. :gig: ......Gator Mike
