If nothing else, do a Google search on "how to install progressive fork springs" and you will find a number of videos and documents on the process on various bikes. Forks are somewhat generic to a large extent, I think.

Nate, I found that the tool used to remove faucet handles, with a little modification, works great to push down the top plug so that you can remove or install the retainer ring.

Re: how to videos 4 sale
I actually ended up putting a 3/4" socket on the plug and ran a ratchet strap top to bottom and tightened it down. That was after trying to force it for about an hour by hand. Could get the spring compressed but couldnt hold it long enough to get a pick in there to get the ring out. Tried so hard and so long that even after a week I have still have bruises on my palms from the center hole of the socket. Looks like I have stigmata.

Oh and Carl says he does his while still on the bike. Can put a socket on the cap and use some kind of lever to go under the handlebars. Sounds like a great idea.

I stand on the footpegs and use a large phillps screw driver & push down and the wife picks the spring out. Those xtra hands on a XII or any MC make the job much easier.

Re: how to videos 4 sale
Don Medina made a nifty little device, a triangular shape out of aluminum (???). Drilled two holes that allow it to be bolted to the forward handlebar clamp bolts, a third threaded hole positioned over the fork. Then he just screws a bolt through the threaded hole that pushes down and holds the fork spring. To do the other fork, just flip the device over.
