A PLACE TO PUT IT

Post by Lucasind »

.NO ..., NOT THAT, GET YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER :gig: . ...So , with all the recent chat on our forum about installing a volt meter, and a good place to put it, I knew I would never use the ( C.B. portal door ? ) left side of fairing, so with the removal of one screw, I removed that small flapper door and headed for the workbench :Cball , I decided that the name Kawasaki appeared in enough other places on the bike ,and losing one , would not matter :thk: The voltmeter that I ordered is about the same size as the area of the Kawasaki logo.Image

Then with the 4 tools you see on the shop towel, air cut -off , razor blade, file, and a skroll saw blade gripped in a small set of vice grips, the square hole was made.Image

The voltmeter was installed into the hole, with a dab of black permatex, around the perimeter of the backside of the meter. and returned to the left side of the fairing.

Image

The wires were then hooked into the "keyed" accessory wires. Turned the key on and by gosh the meter lit up and read 12.2 volts ! ( I have'nt had my battery tender on it for awhile, since the winter service and updates have been happening) That's all I had time for last night, not to mention ,I heat my garage with a couple of "clean burn" :bat: heaters, that give you red pinchy eyes, sore throat and a headache ! anyway, here is what the install looks like.Image

Looks good, that was an easy place to install it.... I see an old fuel filter in the background , how easy was that for you. Gene Kap.

Nice work, nice write-up, great location for it! This thread should prove quite useful to folks. Personally, I feel that a Voltmeter is a 'must-have' item on any bike I ride, and I encourage folks to get one themselves, as the electrical system is something you don't want to be surprised with a failure out in the middle of nowhere... Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

I don't mean to hijack the thread Tony but is that little yellow wire on the batt. positive your way of bypassing the battery monitor?

....Yes Gene, you do see a fuel filter from a bike,in the photo, but that is not from a voyager, it is the 30 yr old filter from that red goldwing that I am resurecting.
That project has been put on hold for a minute, since I have been doing my winter service and updates on the XII , also 6 days ago, when the ninja got here, I lost my air lift  The ninja went UP, and the goldwing went DOWN. My son Brad is "shinin " the paint off her

and Ken, The yellow wire you see was installed by the P.O., one less thing I had to do................................................................tony :-D

.... hello lockwoodjohn, type in "voltmeter " on amazon's web page, you will find a selection there to choose from. the meter I chose lit up in red or blue, the blue was out of stock ,when I ordered. so I got red. I understand that both are available now. If you need the part #, I will have to go out in the garage and hunt up the empty box. let me know.................................tony :-D
