Hello Gery, Glad to see your problem is solved, so tell us what you found with the wire down at its connection. Was the wire just broken off or is it internal and that you had to ground the wire to make it work. I thought Bill O had the best repair in putting a switch on that circuit so as to be able to run CC in any gear range. There are allot of times I wish it would be able to be active in fourth gear and just cruise at 35 to 40 on some roads I travel on. I may just install a small miniature 12 volt relay in the cruise switch box that grounds that wire whenever the CC switch is turned on ( just a thought ) Anyway good to hear that the combined experience of the group got you up and Cruising . :thmup: Gene Kap.

At the beginning

The problem was the 5th gear sensor. I fixed it already. I Do Not liquidating the original ground circuit just I connected additional ground circuit with switch.

As for bypass ground circuit...

I installed a small switch on the desktop motorcycle http://www.fotosik.pl/pokaz_obrazek/81e ... 46d60.html - now I can press the switch and close the additional ground circuit (cheat O/D sensor and turn CC on 3,4,5 gear). If I want to work only in 5th gear I disconnect additional circuit and return to the factory settings.

I do not know if what I wrote is understandable.

About this credit thing......my "knowledge" of this subject can be traced directly to a phone call made to Florida last year, and further schooling on the subject more recently on this forum.

Gery took it the step further and put in a slick little switch. I like it.

Gery, you list a 650 Savage, I had one of those, too a 1987, great bike, got rid of it for the 2001 XII I have now.

For future reference of others with cruise control problems, I've found the 5th gear switch to recently give cruise a problem. I've had to down shift then upshift a time or two, so cruise could engage. I'll probably be replacing that switch sometime future. I don't think there's any provision to disassemble and clean.

Before you replace the 5th gear sensor , try to skip it by connecting it to ground then you will see whether cruise control is working.

PS: It's true Ls 650 Savage is a bike with a soul. Now I have one and am in the process of doing something like this

Pretty sure it's the switch. Popped it from 4-to-5-to-4 a couple times, then it connected. I'll check it out with an Ohmmeter, should reveal right away whether the switch or not.

Yes, bobbing it should add soul to it. About the only thing I didn't like about the Savage was the tiny 2.8 gallon fuel tank. They put a 4 gallon one on the GZ250 (AKA Marauder 250), but not the LS650.

You should be able to tell if it is the 5th gear sensor by seeing if the OD light turns on in 5th. :hmm:

Good point, I haven't checked that. Mind was occupied with engaging cruise. (Really have been enjoying cruise on long rides, certainly beats having a throttle lock. :rolling: )
