Clutch plates and brake rotors

Hi Folks,
I'm looking for clutch discs and plates if you think I need them for a 86 ZG1200 A1. I also am interested in brake rotors. One question I do have is, do I really need new rotors or can I just put on new pads. The current rotors are not warped and seem tp be in good shape. I really enjoy reading everyones input in this forum and I look forward to finding answers to my questions.

Welcome aboard! It's a great place to be. There are a couple of us on here from Iowa. I live about 20 minutes east of Des Moines and have a '94 XL II. I talked to Carl Leo (Voyagersmith) about discs and pads last week and he was telling me the discs are about $400 so make the old ones last as long as you can. He did say to use original Kawasaki pads because they have a softer metal composition and will not eat up the discs.

Call Carl Leo for all of your parts. Cheaper than others and most definitely quicker response time.

I changed the pads on mine and ordered everything from him.

Another person from Iowa, except I am southwest Iowa, will be riding my VII to Des Moines on Tuesday for CPO class and then back home on Wednesday.

Wow! Thanks guys! Two Iowa Voyagers in such a short time! dave, I'm in Newton. We'll have to do coffee with Flip sometime. I did buy some ebt pads on ebay....any feedback on that brand? I will be contacting Carl Leo in the future for my Voyager parts needs.

Welcome Greg, another here from the Hawkeye State. I'm located 50 miles SW of Des Moines. Love it here also, but the winters are starting to get to me since I work outside.

I just replaced my pads and rotors in my front end this spring. I was able to get the rotors for $300 for the set from my local dealer. These were after market rotors though. I don't know if there is much if any difference between the two types.

Well folks, I took care of my brake questions this weekend. I bought a 2003 Xll, with 10,000 miles on it. Yep, I am hooked on the Voyager. I shouldn't have to worry about brakes for a while. I do have a couple of questions about the 03. First, let me say that my 86 rides as well or maybe better than the 03. Maybe it's the tires. The 86 runs as well as the 03, with no discernible power differences. Here's my questions, I like the rear lights on the 86 much more than I do on the 03. Can I just swap them out? Is there some after market custom kit available? I want lots of rear lights and I want it to look Voyager. Are there any other differences between the two that I need to or want to know about? Any help is appreciated. I think I may send some pics of the bike to Voyager Voice and this site. Oh and one last thing....... the 03 seat is no better than the 86,,,,ooooooooooohhhhhh it hurts. I have read about a couple of different companies that do seat mods. Which would you suggest? And Moderator, please let me know if I need to take this thread somewhere else. I like this forum and the AVA site. It makes it easy to ride the Voyager with such an outstanding group for support. I'll be selling the 86 soon.

Greg, I ride on a stock seat so I can't offer any advice but as for the rear lights that's all thanks to (sorry to offend anyone) Honda.
You can keep the extra lights on the 86 and get them on the 03 at the same time, the only thing that ma'Kaw did was paint over the lenses with color matching paint. Do a search for paint removal or check the tect tips area from the Home page and you'll find advice on how to safely remove the paint and re-create the same lighting on your 2003 bike for a very small amount of money and effort! Take some pics and post them, we'ld love to see your new ride! And ride safely!

flip you are correct, both sides of the lenses are painted. Strip the paint and add lights and you just increased your rear lights by at least 50% if not more depending on what all you do. I've entertained the thought of taking apart the center lense on the trunk, stripping the paint and adding some single LED lights as they take very little room and can be placed nearly anywhere. My thoughts were to drill small holes in the back side and what ever chosen pattern, insert the single LED light and simply add some silicone to hold it in place.

Yes, you should be able to swap out the lights so you have all the great lighting of the '86 on the '03. The only problem is you will have added some olive green to the '86 which may hurt resale. You can not buy those lights anymore and lights off a parted out '86 go for big bucks.

You can send your seat to Spencer. http://www.greatdaytoride.com He does a foam and gel mod to the seat. It doesn't change the looks, just the comfort. You can get aftermarket seats from Corbin(firm), Hartco, Diamond, Russels, Day-long, etc.

My voyager has a lens on the trunk in the center and a lower lens on the fender; I went to autozone, bought 2 1157 pigtails and 1157 red LEDs and tapped into the trunk taillights and lit up the lower fender lens. As far as the center trunk lens I was thinking the same thing about lighting it up as you; let me know if you get around to it with the single LEDs.
