Elite 3 tires
The guy I got the bike from just put a set of Elite 3s on it, can you fellows give me a idea how many miles they will last. I used to have a 1988, I could get about 6 to 7000 on tires then, from what I have read here they go a lot longer now. Thanks in advance, you guys have a world on knowledge.

Re: Elite 3 tires
The six or seven thousand miles you got on your '88 I am assuming was with the stock Dunlop 404 or 402's I think, either one which are pretty much just round. The E's should at least double that mileage, and handle a lot better to boot.

Re: Elite 3 tires
I got approx 22k out of mine in 2yrs. I should have changed them before the last ride though as they were getting cupped and down to no tread in spots when I got back.
Oh and 8 to 10k of those was pulling a trailer.
Just sayin,
Ken

Re: Elite 3 tires
I think the 491s were (are) the Elite 2. I got over 20,000 on my E3 front tire and changed it after the Logan rally last summer only because it had a surface (??) crack across the tire as a result of hitting something in the road on the way out to Ohio. When I first noticed it, it was less than an inch long but by the time I got home (about 5,000 miles later) it was about 1.25". To be fair, I estimate the tire had only about 2,000 - 3,000 miles of tread left when I did replace it.
My rear E3 now has 20,700 and still looks like it has many miles left though I will replace it before I head out to Asheville as I don't know if it has 9,000 miles left (I expect the Asheville trip to be about 8,500 miles.)
I ride solo, 40lbs of air in the rear tire, 38 in the front, and 40lbs in the rear shocks. I do carry a lot of "stuff" in the saddle bags, trunk, trunk rack, and on the passenger seat.
