Mystery bottle
I was putting a tie wrap around the boot on the drive shaft. I pulled the water reserve bottle to get to it better. There is a little bottle right behind it, there was only a drain hose on the bottom and it had a plug in it. There was a hose that came off the breather box, had a tee and some other lines, one line was long enough and looked like it went to this bottle, I put it on there. This line smelt like gas, is this some kind of recovery bottle??? Thanks!!

Re: Mystery bottle
Sounds like it is the Surge overflow catch tank. If water gets into the air cleaner I think it is supposed to direct it into that tank instead of letting it get into the carburetors. Click on the link in my signature, see the chapter on fuel system and see if it looks like part #7 in the blow apart section. Then see if it matches on page 2-16.

Yes, it looks like that part, it is a little thing. I wonder if your supposed to drain it every now and then? The hose had a lot of dirt on it, like it had been getting wet and collecting dust. I cleaned it before connecting it. Thanks, it just was sitting there in it's own little world. Thanks again!!!!!

Steve,
Many, Many Voyager owners did not know of the existence of the "catch tank". It is there for the purposes described in the previous messages. They should be drained on occasion, but do not get concerned at the sludge that may come from it. The secondary, lower airbox also functions to separate and "catch" undesirable fluids and oils and directs them to the catch tank. If you have a California model 1200 with all the carb drain hoses attached, it is not uncommon for the catch tank to fill with raw gas that can come from an overfilling carb.
Any how, a couple of oz's of sludge from the drain plug is fairly normal.
