Windshields
I need a new windshield. I've been looking at Cee Bailey and Clearview but can't make up my mind. Any thoughts?

Re: Windshields
Either is a good choice. It's a matter of how much you want to spend. I've used Cee Bailleys and have been happy. I would expect (hope) that the Clearview are a better quality in some way since they are more expensive but both are the same thickness of acrylic (3/16") so much stronger than stock OEM. Both have options for height and width though Clearview does not have the 22" I prefer (to see over.) Also both have vent options which a lot of folks here rave about.
Note that the Cee Bailley windshields measure 1/2" shorter than advertised - i.e. the 22" for example is actually 21 1/2". I don't know about the Clearview.
By the way, Cee Bailley sells a windshield rain repellent product specifically formulated for acrylic. Works very well. I've used it on my windshield and face shield. Don't use RainX on acrylic. It will not work well and will damage the acrylic.

Re: Windshields
I have had a Cee Baileys on mine for a couple of years. I am sure Clear View is good as well. I prefer the shape of the Cee Baileys, and customer service was outstanding. One nice thing if you get a Cee Baileys and find it is still to tall, they will cut it down one time for only the cost of shipping. I use wax on my windshield, repels rain and always looks like new.

Re: Windshields
My Clearview has been on the bike for over 3 years now. Seems like I bought it just last week. I like the thickness of the screen. It won't flex (unlike the OEM unit) no matter what you do. I have the Gold Wing style vent on it because I wanted the windshield tall to knock wind off the passenger. I love it. Works great in the hot summer and in the cold winter. I thought it was worth every penny.

Just got my Cee Bailey. It looks pretty good. I hope to install it tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to trying it out-----if it ever stops raining.

Re: Windshields
I just installed a Slipstreamer. I like it. One of the PO's had shortened the windshield that was on it. I like the stock height. Rode today to give it a good test.

Re: Windshields
Well, I've put the new Cee Bailey windshield on, and surprise, surprise. I ordered it 4" wider, 24" tall. Turns out it's about 1/2" shorter than the original, as expected, but the real shocker is that it's also about 1/4" narrower. I'm wondering if the windshield I took off is standard width. It measures just over 26" at it's widest point, and I can't imagine how a windshield 4" narrower would fit on this fairing. Does anyone know if Kawasaki originally offered various widths of windshield? The marking on the old one read:
Made in Japan
39154-1144 on one side , and
Panelite Sheet
DOT-280 pc7112
M-1218 AS-6/7 on the other.
I hope I don't have to send this one back. Shipping and returning to Canada is a pain. (I spent most of yesterday, including an hour each way on the bridge over the Niagara river, on my way to pick it up, and I don't relish a repeat performance nor do I want to pay the up to 50% of product value "brokerage fee" charged by couriers.)
There've been a lot of comments here about the good service provided by Cee Bailey, and I know mistakes will happen, but I've got to say this is pretty disappointing.

Re: Windshields
Skibou, the stock windshield is the same width at the base as the length of the chrome cover then tapers in (narrows) as it goes up to the top. The wider windshields are the same width at the base as stock, but flare out in an arc and will partially "block" your view in the mirrors.

Re: Windshields
Thanks Ron, but this one does not flare out, or block the mirrors. In fact when I place it against the original, it looks exactly the same shape, but marginally smaller.

Re: Windshields
Sounds like the stock size to me. If it looks like this, it's stock:

Re: Windshields
Yeah, it does look a bit like that, but it's hard to judge from the picture. I notice the standard on their website is 20" wide, and mine is considerably wider than that. I suppose I was just expecting something wider than the original that flared out a couple of inches each side as you described. I wonder where do they make the width measurement.

Re: Windshields
They say it is 4" wider, but starts out same at the base. the Cee Baileys doesn't flair out like the Clear View. It goes straight up instead of the standard windshield taper to the inside. It is 4" wider at what would be the top of the stock windshield. It will be in your line of sight on inside edge of the mirror. Some people get extenders for the mirrors. I put different mirrors on mine.

Re: Windshields
Thanks 2Knights. Confusion finally cleared up. Measuring around the curve at the top of the screen, the old one measures 20", the new one 24". There is a slight interference with the mirrors. I guess I was just expecting something more dramatic. Apart from my confusion I am very pleased with the new windshield. It fit perfectly, was easy to install and feels a lot more substantial than the original. Rain, rain go away so I can try it out!
