1700 Using Oil

2010 1700 voyager, 15,800 miles, just switched over to synthetic oil at 15,000 ,, never had a concern before but now it seems bike it using more oil about a qt every 1000 miles or so, most riding is highway around 70 miles an hour.

My 2012 Voyager did the same thing until I reached 24,000 miles. After that it hasn't used any oil between oil changes, which are 10,000 miles or when ever it starts shifting hard.

At 5,000 miles I switched my 1700 over to synthetic Amsoil 10-40, I tried 20-50 and it just made the engine run hot. I now have just over 66,000 miles and returned from a 7,800 mile tour and oil level is right at the full line on the dip stick.

My 2012 used a quart between 3200 and 7100 miles. Changed oil for the 3rd time then and hasn't used any since. Using 10w40 Amsoil for now. Was using dyno oil before that. Changed by dealer at 640 miles then by me at 3200, and 7100. I think it takes time for the rings to seat good, and they'll use a little oil until they do.

Same here. Mine used oil until I passed the 13,000 mile point. It does not use any oil now. I guess each bike is different (miles wise) before it finds it's grove. No more adding oil.

My 2010 also did the same after changing to synthetic till about 16000 miles now oil loss is very minimal. It is a big V Twin that is not unusual.
