Best tires
Hello, I'm new to this forum and would like to get an opinion on what the best tires are for my " NEW " 96 Voyager XII. I've been riding off and on most of my life and also own a 05 Harley Sportster ( bought it new). I just put some Michelin Commander IIs on it last year after polling the Sportster Forum and love them. But as we all know a Voyager is a completely different type of ride. I will be doing 50% of my rides 2 up with a combined weight off 350lbs ( 225/125 ), all of it in 90+ heat in the Midwest. Any advice would help here since I'm not sure if the Michelins are the best choice on this type of machine. Let the input begin and thanks in advance. Robert B. "archer500"

Re: Best tires
Welcome to the forum Robert!
I think most of us like the Dunlop Elite 3. Definitely NOT the Dunlop D-404 that come stock on a number of bikes. I just changed the rear E3 and got 24,496 miles out of it. Could have made it to 25,000 but leaving for the Asheville rally tomorrow. That trip will be about 9,000 miles by the time I get home.
Run 38-40 lbs in the front, 40-42 in the rear.

Re: Best tires
I would not use the Continental's on the front, they have thinner sidewalls.voyager55 wrote:E3's are popular.
Also Continental, Michelin, And Avon are good tires
When I used them they added to the shake problem and I didn't get the mileage out of then that I get with the E3's or the Avon, about 10,000 with the Conti. and about 20,000+ with the E3's.
For the extra money the E3's coast they are your better value.

Re: Best tires
Odd, I know the Cont Milestone tire is used a lot in the touring world & highly spoken of.
Is this the one you had?

Yes, I had a milestone on the front and with that tire I always had a slight wobble for about 2 miles I think after that is when the tire got heat in it.voyager55 wrote:Odd, I know the Cont Milestone tire is used a lot in the touring world & highly spoken of.

I got tired of that after about 1500 miles, that's when I tried the E3.
I won't use a Milestone on the front again.
Don't get me wrong Conti is a good tire but it doesn't compare to the Dunlap.
