HINTS

Post by Lucasind »

......Most of us have been riding for a long time , and as the decades pass .... we have rode many bikes, with many names on the side of the tank. We get "in tune" with our bikes... and when they give us "hints" of issues, they can be sometimes
"vague" at best, this means "scratch ur head" and think about it.Well... last year on the way home from the rally in Logan, We were about a hour from home ,riding 2 up, towing the trailer, with about 400 lbs. behind the XII, and I started feeling and hearing something abnormal in the front, and pulled over at the next exit to investigate, I got out the tools and went around checking tightness of everything, and heck, Iv'e even picked up a pesky stone in the tread of my tire, that caused me to do the same, but I found nothing. Being only a hour from home , we continued, because what I heard and felt was not severe. After the XII was unloaded, and the trailer put away, I continued to ride as always, and NEVER heard or felt what I experienced that day on the return trip home from the rally. Soooo at the time, ya chalk that one up in the HUH ? catagory .

Well..... Me and Pam were in Sandusky Oh. on a ride, and going faster than I would normally go , we banked left into a long curve,,, and guess who decided to show up again, after nearly 12 months :!!

We rolled on back to Toledo, and the next day I ordered new wheel bearings and seals, because I have not been there on my XII yet, I thought, I'm not going to Asheville with this ? pending. :Cball

So the parts came in , and up goes the front of the XII,for wheel removal/inspection an sure enough ,the left wheel bearing was bad , and the right ,was'nt acceptable either. This gave me the chance to do a thorough inspection and service all things related ,that I had not done yet.

The AVON's look pretty bad in the photo :hmm: , but they are new , with only 5 k on them, anyway my mind is at ease as I /we head south to the rally, listen to your bike.... sometimes it speaks to you clearly... other times not!.......tony :-D
