Hello friends!

Post by Lumpy Rider »

Hello all - I am new to the forum! My name is Duane. I am a school teacher and work in Denver public schools, married to a wonderful wife, have three grown kids and two grandchildren. Have been riding and tinkering on bikes for 30 years, and having recently sold my Suzuki Intruder 1500, I am now riding a 2001 Voyager. I have not yet posted a picture of my sweet ride as it is currently broken down for cleaning and maintenance (I am very particular). Anyhow, I had been wanting a change. Have owned and ridden about 30 bikes I think, and have owned at least one at any given time since I was 15 (at times 4).

Newbie that I am, at one point I found a lot of service information on the site (i.e. service manual), but cannot seem to locate it now. Perhaps someone could direct me.

Well, my ride needs tires and local shop recommended Dunlap 404's. I have seen threads here on Elite 3's, but they are pricey. Does anyone have input on this tire?

Very pleased to be here. Hope to meet up with many of you in the near future, and hope to contribute to the cause someday. Have fun!

Welcome to the forum Duane!

I can't help you with the online manual, but the tires are very important!, DO NOT
put Dunlop 404's on the bike, very unreliable, don't wear long. Sure the E3's are more expensive, but most riders here get about 12-15000 on rear and around 20000 on front.
The 404's might make it to 8,000 if your lucky

PS,

Check some of the large internet sales..ie Jake Wilson, Bike Bandit etc.
They run sales occasionally.

Here's the service manual- Welcome aboard and be sure to join the AVA!!!

The Dunlop E3 is a superb tire for the 1200. WELL worth the money. Never skimp on tires!

Also Progressive fork springs and rear shocks will make the big handle & ride 100% better.
Most common upgrade owners do. Get the spring rear shocks, no more air leaks to worry about

I replaced the 404 on the rear when I got mine, its a crappy tire, go with the E3's.

Stay away from the 404's ...go with the Elite 3's or K491 Elite 2's (yes they are still made and are the factory tires on several Victory motorcycles) . Should be able to get them for similiar money and you will be happy.

Lumpy... 404's......ca ca, doo doo, crap. Do not, under any circumstance put 404 on a Voyager. The worst for ride ability. Caused handlebar shaking to the point of "Tank Slapping". Worst ride ever. Use anything else..... Avons Venoms, Metzler 880's, Dunlop E-3's or E-2's. Dunlop 491's are all probably gone, but they were pretty good, too.

Trust us. Screw the dealerships who recommend the 404's. Never shop there again, ever...... It's been over 28 years of experimentation with the Voyager 1200. Trust US. No 404's.....ever.......

Golly, thanks all for the warm welcome and tips. Will be needing the tips. I don't believe my new ride has EVER been serviced (has 29k on the clock). Well, except for it looks like someone tried to loosen the fill plug on the final gear with a hammer.

welcome Lumpy. I have a 2001 and I think it is the best color for the Voyager, but I AM just a bit prejudiced in favor of the old girl. Think about joining the AVA website as a member. There is so much here to learn about this bike and nobody knows them like the old, really old guys on this site! Let me know if I can help you with something.

I have to agree with 2001 being the best color. Would love to join the AVA website
as a member. I'll see if I can figure out how.

Is there a place to obtain the supplemental manual that would cover the 2001 (ZG1200-B15)?
