Gear oil leak

Hi guys
I have a question - I noticed a small leak from a drive shaft with the rubber guard at the entrance to the gearbox. What should I be mentioned?
The oil which is leaking is definitely gear oil.

at this site you will see the 2 o-rings, 92055-1037, which usually show hypoid oil leaks at the rubber boot if one or both are cut/missing.
Oil level should be 6mm below bottom of fill threads.
Vent hole, inside top of rear gear housing may not be open/there,

I would opt for the oil level first, it's the easiest to check.

Gery: Agree with what triton28 states, On the "Tech Tips" page link go to the left side of the page and scroll down to "Rear components" (Final Drive vent Location), Yours probably does not have vent hole drilled in it. If fluid gets hot via high speed or to full it builds up pressure, and it will force fluid past the seals and follow drive shaft up to the coupling covered by the rubber boot and leak out at bottom of boot. Very common on XII without vent hole or fluid to full. 6 to 10mm below the threads of the fill hole will be the level you want it at. Clean up boot and it may leak for a little bit but then should stop. If leak gets worse then it may need new seals & o-rings but usually a clean vent hole and correct fill with do just fine.

Gery, It's very likely the rearward o-ring on drive spline at rear end has failed. This is usually the one that breaks or is missing a chunk, because of drive shaft flexing. Just remove rear end and put new one on. And don't be alarmed by how much gear oil you see in spline area it's normal. Gear oil from rear end is used to lube spline coupling. Mike

I did a 250 mile ride 2 weeks before the rally, and found gear oil under my rubber boot the next morning on my'99. The next chance I had, I pulled the rear wheel and found my vent undrilled,drilled it, and saw no leaks on my 1200 mile rally trip.
