Re: where is cb radio located????
The main CB modual is located behind the left upper fairing if it is installed on the voyager. It attaches to the radio as well.

Re: where is cb radio located????
Yes, ebay is a good place to look for parts for the voyagers. The cb is the same for all 1200s no matter what year if I am correct.

Put a wanted in the classifieds, there was someone at the Rally that had one for sale, not sure if he sold it.
They come up on Ebay once and a wile not vary often anymore, expect to pay $300-$400 for a used one.
also might want to check with Carl Leo

Re: where is cb radio located????
Be sure you really need one. You'll pay a fortune for a cb that should cost around $85
Also look into putting a car cb on the bike if you really need one

Re: where is cb radio located????
The full CB kit comprises of..
The Main silver module that bolts under the left glove pocket under the left fairing.
The Control unit that sits by your left knee when sat on the bike.
A filter that bolts to the side of the radio that the handlebar controls and groundset cables plug into to help reduce ignition and alternator whine.
A filter that plugs inline with the radiator cooling fan to reduce motor interference.
An Antenna bracket for the left side of the bike,
The Centrally loaded antenna and cable.
Add on switch blocks (Channel change and PTT switches) that bolt on top of the left handlebar controls and into the rear passenger controls and their associated harnesses.
Optional extras were the headset Y Cable and of course, headsets.
Originally, the kit was about $900 new with the radio at $1768 new..
If you decide on using one, then make sure the control box (left knee) not allowed to get wet. While I can get most of the components still in the main box, the LCD decoder/Driver chip and of course, the LCD display have no stocks anywhere.
J&M make a nice add on CB with handlebar controls for the goldwing which will also shoehorn onto a voyager BUT they too are circa $400-$500
The '96 "Anniversary edition" voyager seems to be a "special case" depending on when it was built during that year. From what I can gather and from rumours, I believe it came with the CB as a stock item. some models were equipped with just one antenna, the CB loaded one, and a splitter that allowed the Radio and CB to use the same antenna..
I stand to be corrected of course on that one..
Cheers,,.

Re: where is cb radio located????
I found tips on installing an aftermarket CB radio with interface to the Clarion from:
http://www.tinlin.net/motorcycle/parts.html#radio
I downloaded the PDF link for the wiring diagram for the interface. Amazingly, I was still able to get the aftermarket push-to-talk switch, rider and passenger wiring harness and headsets as specified. I tile printed and now have the wiring diagram plan. It is not the easiest to read, as it is done is bus style wiring instead of a true electronic schematic. Found sources for the various DIN connectors. Forget Radio Shack, they have eliminated a lot of the electronic parts over the years.
This will be a Fall wiring project for me. Now I'm installing heated grips, alarm and trailer harness wiring. I bought a new Midland CB-1 radio off E-Bay for around $35, trucker 3 feet CB mirror antenna with bracket for under $15 off Amazon.com. Will fabricate my own CB antenna bracket to bolt under the trunk location from a section of 1/2 inch square pipe I have. CB radio will mount in the cassette tape storage compartment on the left. By opening the compartment door (or leaving open) will allow access to the CB radio while on the road, but allow security and weatherproofing by locking when parked or during rain.
If all goes well, I'll post on how my installation went.

Re: where is cb radio located????
From what I understand in 1996 (or whatever year the price of the Voyager went up a lot) the voyager was to have the CB standard but it was dealer installed and a lot of dealers did not put them in.suzib6sw wrote: The '96 "Anniversary edition" voyager seems to be a "special case" depending on when it was built during that year. The single antenna I herd about but don't know when they did that.

A single antenna can be used with a splitter such aschevyman1 wrote:From what I understand in 1996 (or whatever year the price of the Voyager went up a lot) the voyager was to have the CB standard but it was dealer installed and a lot of dealers did not put them in. One replaces their AM/FM antenna with a CB one then uses this splitter to merge the signal onto one antenna. I don't know if this particular splitter will on the Clarion radio or not.

Re: where is cb radio located????
Certainly should work, however, as with all splitters, overall performance may be affected. Having said that, you probably wouldn't notice.. :-)

Re: where is cb radio located????
You bring up an interesting point. I would want performance to be as optimal as expected given limitations of the Midland CB-1 unit, portions I've traveled solo through rural areas with no cell phone service. Only means of communication is CB. Besides, I looked at the Clarion AM/FM antenna and mount, it won't handle a CB antenna with standard electrical connectors. That leaves me with constructing my own antenna mount system.suzib6sw wrote:Certainly should work, however, as with all splitters, overall performance may be affected. Re: where is cb radio located????
1996 Anniversary Edition came with a CB that was installed by the dealer as a bonus for the Anniversary Edition. Many dealers did not install these , even though it was supposed to come with it on the 1996. Rick Alden , former longtime board member and former service manager for Steir's Kawasaki in Elgin during this time confirmed this when they came out. Contact Ricky Breit of MO KAN voyagers for a CB, he had two at the Rally for Sale and still has one that I know of.
