Bit the Bullet and ordered a Saddlebag Lid

Post by Mr Jensee »

Ouch! $317. shipping included. Now I know why you can't find a lid on Ebay. Several years ago I noticed a crack going through the latch of my left saddlebag lid. I used ABS glue which I have mentioned several times, to glue it back together. It has held now for more than 4 years, time does fly. Anyway the other day during cleaning from my Texas trip I noticed that now there was a sizable chunk knocked out along the edge in the same area. I have a choice of trying to patch it with some pieces of ABS then matching paint or ordering a new lid. Well I bit the bullet and ordered one from Ronayers.com. I don't know if they can get it and ship it but they took $317 out of my paypal account immediately. I sure hope they ship it. Owww that hurt.

Wow! When bikes are out of production they screw everyone on parts.

I was on Bike Bandit.com and saw they want $800 for our alternator!! Can you believe that! :gmad:

A 1800 wing alternator brand new oem is like $280

you play, you pay as they say

$317 is just for a bare lid, the poor guy that has lost a lid has about $100 more in compartment lid, lock, and rubber seal. new from kawasaki it is over $500 for a complete lid..........

Used Voyager XII's have been going for around $3,000. $500 is 17% of the cost. However, used parts on E-Bay have been very reasonable. I've seen a lid or two show up recently, for a little over $100.

But I don't blame the buyers for expending these costs. An XII in very good running condition is much more cost effective yet does the same thing as a brand new Wing.

I am Uncle Buck, a.k.a. Lumpy. Hahaha. Love that car - real Americana.

You had a Monkey Ward? Far out. I remember seeing Sears bikes, but not yours. I had a Ted Williams (Sears) outboard motor. My first legal scoot was a '71 CB 350 that cost $50 and needed a stator.

The lid came in yesterday, I have not had the chance to install it but it is beautiful. Very dark red! The only thing missing is the black lid to the compartment on top and I have that already. Will install it when I get done paneling my back porch. :woohoo:

My first motorcycle I bought in 1979 for $300 was a used, 1971 Honda CB100 from a motorcycle salvage dealer in Honolulu, used it to finish my college as my only transportation until I graduated in December 1981. (New was about $850 then.) Then I continued to use it back and forth to work at Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, CA until I had enough to buy a used car. Engine was well worn, smoked a little. Replaced the bridge rectifier (the only regulator) with a $2 Radio Shack 50 PIV 25 Amp silicon one. (It still works, silicon definitely outlives selenium, I still have the bike, albeit with an overhauled SL125 motor.)

Glad to see you get your scooter repaired and ready to roll again.
