New member with a big project

Post by Coon »

Hi, everyone. My name is Dave and I've got a big project that I'm sure I'll need help with. My neighbor recently passed on and his daughter gave me his '92 Voyager. The bike has been yard art for more than a year. The man was working on it off and on since he moved in but I never saw it run. It appears he was working on the carbs, but I'm not sure what else. I guess the big question at the moment is, "Where do I start?" I charged the battery and verified that the motor isn't siezed, and even got it to fire once by spraying carb cleaner in one of the carbs. I've never been a motorcycle kind of guy, but I really want to try to get this thing going. I guess I'm having a late mid-life crisis kind of thing. I'm going to have to do most of it myself, because I can't afford to pay someone todo the repairs. I'm an aircraft mechanic, so I won't be totally lost. Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Hello ;
I would reccommend reading back through the various forum pages and get a sense of some of the common problems folk have had with the fuel and other systems. If you are going to continue with the rejuvenation, a service manual, AND the supplement which lists the 1992 model year on the back cover, are a must.
There is also another Voyager web site, http://www.abbikeboard.com which also has archived pages.
Also use the online part suppliers diagrams for clues as to assembly issues. Sites such as kawasaki.com, partzilla.com, partshark.com, bikebandit, cheapcycleparts and others are really good for exploded diagrams.
Mr. Carl Leo is also a great resource for anything Voyager related.
Good luck,
Dave

Asphalt, the final frontier; these are the treks of the Kawasaki Voyager; its continuing mission to explore strange new roads, to seek out new sites, new bed & breakfasts, to boldly ride where no one has ridden before.

Does someone have a clear complete wiring diagram for the XII? Scanned versions I've seen are very coarse and hard to read. I've been able to make out some of the details from sectional diagrams, but they don't show everything.

Mr Jensee has most if not all the manual online. You can find it here, https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=25f882b6 ... CA8D%21173

I have that already, and I am grateful that he made it available. The foldout wiring diagram on Page E-3 was scanned as two pages in 1-bit pixel depth, but lacks resolution to fully make out the color coding text for the wires and descriptors. After carefully studying it, I was able to more or less with the help of the other sub diagrams in the chapter make out the tail light wiring. A clearer scanned wiring diagram for this fold out page would make it easier to read.

I have a large paper copy, in color, of the wiring diagram. I'm on a trip right now but when I get home next week I will see if I can scan it in pieces then stitch the pieces together back into one cohesive document.

There is a wiring diagram posted in the Members Only Section. It's black-and-white but complete and reasonably large at 4.375 x 3,115 px. Click on the file to open the full size version, then right-click to save it on your computer.

Thanks, guys. I'll be taking it slow, mainly because funds are limited, but also just to be careful and get it right.
