Whining sound
Considering purchasing a 1989 Kawasaki Voyager and took a test drive today. LOVED it but I noticed a sound - sort of a whine - when it got up around 60mph. I was told this is a common 'problem' (that really isn't a problem) with the Voyagers. Anyone else have that??

Re: Whining sound
Yes, the whine is not unusual, and varies with bikes. I had an '01 XII that would sing loudly at 70, then quiet down at 72. In 4th gear it would sing less loudly at about 50. It's the straight cut gears in the transmission. Bullet proof but sometimes like to sing (or whine.) My '95 is pretty quiet. There is an adjustment to the backlash whatever posted in the Voyager XII tech tips page on our main website. Users have had mixed results with this adjustment.

Think of it as the John Deere Tractor of motorcycles.

Yup, I get mine at 60, not 58 or not 62, but right at 60! At least that's what I think. Makes me smile!

Yes sir, the wife and I sometimes laugh about how the whine comes and goes at different speeds. A lot of us liken it to George Jetsons space ship/car in the cartoons. The radio drowns it out very well if it bothers you.
For what its worth, there are a few members here who have close to 300,000 miles on there XII's and one fellow in CA that got 324,000 before having to replace his engine.
What's a little wine/whine between friends anyway!
