I tried to starter a bike that had been sitting for a while and I think I over-cranked the starter. It now doesn't crank. I can hear the click of it trying to start but that's all.
Question?.......Is it hard or any tricks to removing the starter for replacement?

Are you recharging the battery? It would not take much starting duration to drain one of these 20 amp units. Just like in a car, clicking can mean too low voltage to turn the starter?

That does sound like a dead battery. However IF the battery is charged, the clicking you hear is the starter relay. Maybe once once it got hot something seized. See the link in my signature, chapter 15-22.

Yes the battery was and is fully charged (new actually and charged) but I think the starter overheated and needs replaced.
Anyone ever change one out? How hard are they to remove? and replace?
Thanks for the help

Re: replacing starter for 2001 Kawasaki Voyager
Very simple to remove, replace or repair just remember to disconnect battery first then 2 bolts and cable and starter just slides out. New, very expensive. Stick your finger in the hole it comes out of and spin the starter clutch it should only spin one way if it spins both ways you need to remove engine to change the starter clutch. Starter is rebuildable to a point. Carl leo may have a used one..sprengers4 wrote:Yes the battery was and is fully charged (new actually and charged) but I think the starter overheated and needs replaced.
